Although it’s already a success,High Potentialcould benefit greatly by borrowing one specific plotline from season 2 of the French series that spawned Kaitlin Olson’s American adaptation. By the time theHigh Potentialseason 1 finalerolls around, the series has already deviated significantly from the source material. Original French seriesHPIended its freshman season on a very different note than the remake, with barely even a hint of the type of villain now set to wreak havoc inHigh Potentialseason 2.
While the two series might differ in terms of overarching story and (for the most part) individual cases, it also remains true that some ofHigh Potential’s best casesso far have been adapted almost directly fromHPI.The biggest differences betweenHigh PotentialandHPIhave focused on side stories, with the American Morgan Gillory and French Morgane Alvaro encountering very different life challenges despite being largely similar characters. However, there’s at least one major obstacle that perhaps both characters should share.

The French Version Of High Potential Season 2 Places The Main Character Under Investigation
She Wasn’t Even Internal Affairs’ Initial Target
There are at least a fewtimes Morgan isn’t the smartest character inHigh Potential, butHPI’s Morgane Alvaro turns recklessness into an art form. This is especially clear when, inHPIseason 2,Karadec and Morgane are put under investigation by the French internal affairs department, IGPN. Although the investigation initially focuses on Karadec, he’s cleared when IGPN’s Roxane determines Morgane to be a far more interesting target. Morgane isn’t allowed to communicate with the rest of her team during this time, which raises endless complications.
First, Morgane refuses to stop doing her job. She uses Gilles (the French counterpart ofHigh Potential’s Oz) to gather information on new cases and even brings her kids along on a wildly unsanctioned stakeout. When she clears the investigation,Morgane has to receive formal training in order to continue her work with the police, during which she makes waves by stealing her trainer’s car. She’s also thrust back into the arms of her ex-husband Ludo after learning that Karadec’s begun dating Roxane. It’s a major story arc thatHigh Potentialneeds to adapt for at least one chief reason.

High Potential Season 1 Doesn’t Fully Explore The Issues With Morgan’s Job Position
It Gets Swept Under The Rug Whenever It Comes Up
Given the participation ofPsych’s James Roday Rodriguez inHigh Potential, bringing in new characters as part of an Internal Affairs investigation would already pave the way for potential fantastic cameos. The bigger reason to adaptHPI’s IGPN storyline is that there are unaddressed problems with Morgan’s current role in the LAPD. Keith David’s Captain Pacheco does voice concerns inHigh Potentialepisode 11, but he appears satisfied once Morgan solves the case.
Nonetheless, Pacheco could easily cause problems in the future, especially after one of the LAPD’s own was assaulted and nearly drowned by a serial killer in theHigh Potentialseason 1 finale.Morgan Gillory bucks protocol frequently and has no formal training as a police consultant, making her a liability any time her cases come under too much scrutiny. This problem was generally resolved inHPIseason 2, and it would benefitHigh Potentialto solidify Morgan’s role in a similar manner.

How High Potential Season 2 Benefits From Copying HPI’s Internal Affairs Plot
It Would Have Major Effects On Every Single Character
Besides clearing any doubts about whether Morgan’s consultant position is above board,HPI’s IGPN plotline could have other benefits for the adaptation as well. For one thing, Roxane’s presence would introduce significant drama to any potentialMorgan and Karadec romance inHigh Potential. The two main characters take two entire seasons to admit their feelings for one another inHPI, andHigh Potentialhas done even less thanHPIdid to set up their future relationship after the first season. Following the original plot would also strain the relationship between Morgan and Oz, giving him more focus in season 2.
Oz and Karadec wouldn’t be the only ones affected by the investigation. Following the events ofHPI, Selena would stick by Morgan’s side while taking heat from the higher-ups, which in this case would likely include Pacheco. Daphne also becomes borderline hostile inHPI, which would be a very new angle for her character inHigh Potential. That’s not to say the adaptation should take everything from the original, as Olson still deserves to make her character stand out from Audrey Fleurot’s Morgane. But there’s little doubt these new obstacles could introduce rather exciting tension to the upcoming season.
