A sequel means moredragons fromHow to Train Your Dragon’s universe, a bigger story, and a bigger scale. However, for one star in particular, none of this matters more than a big dream of theirs coming to fruition inHow to Train Your Dragon2.

Mason Thames Will Finally Get To Wear Hiccup’s Armor & Use The Fire Sword In How To Train Your Dragon 2

Hiccup’s Upgrades Are Notable In The Original Sequel

The star in question is Mason Thames, who portrayed Hiccup in the live-action remake ofHow to Train Your Dragon. In an interview withCollidershortly after the movie’s release, Thames was asked about a sequel, specifically what he was most excited about translating from the original animated sequel.

Thames, naturally, remained fairly tight-lipped about the sequel so as not to get in trouble with his director or studio, but outlined a specific dream he has forHow to Train Your Dragon 2:

“He [Director Dean DeBlois] has a lot of new ideas and a lot of cool stuff that I’m excited to see done for the first time. Yeah, that’s all I can say. And I want to wear the suit and have the fire sword.”

Evidently, Thames is excited to get his hands on Hiccup’s upgrades afterHow to Train Your Dragon’s ending.

The original sequel takes place five years afterHow to Train Your Dragon, meaning Hiccup has grown up in many ways. The live-action sequel is likely to adapt these changes, as Thames points out. Aside from a visual redesign to showcase Hiccup’s older age,the original sequel gives him a cool suit of armor and a sword that catches fire using dragon gas.

It makes perfect sense that this is Thames' dream for the sequel…

The armored suit and sword stay with Hiccup throughout the second movie and into the third,How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, explaining why Thames wants to adapt them so much. The armor and weapon are not only a symbol of Hiccup’s growth, but they remain with him throughout his journey in the original trilogy.

For these thematic reasons, and simply how cool it would be as an actor to don the armor and swing the flame sword, it makes perfect sense that this is Thames' dream for the sequel. Thankfully, if the fidelity ofHow to Train Your Dragon’s 2025 remake is anything to go by, the sequel will make Thames' dream a reality.
