Nobody Wants Thisstar Adam Brody reveals the one regret he harbors from the show’s breakout season. More than twenty years after he first gained recognition as the nerdy Seth Cohen on the seminal teen dramaThe O.C., Brody has spent nearly a year in the headlines for his performance as Rabbi Noah Roklov opposite Kristen Bell in the Netflix rom-com.Nobody Wants Thisseason 2is returning in October. Brody won a Critics' Choice Award for the role, and is currently in the conversation for his first potential Emmy nomination.
In an interview withVanity Fair, Brody was asked about how he would like to expand Noah forNobody Wants Thisseason 2. The actor notes that, for season 1,he wishes that he had tried harder to be funnier. In the quote below, theJennifer’s Bodyalum acknowledges that, although Noah is meant to be a grounded figure, it’s something he’s thinking about for season 2:

I watched the first season and thought, Man, I should have tried a little harder to be funnier. I know I’m supposed to be grounded; I know I’m in some ways an anchor. Yet still, I was like, I wouldn’t hate it if I was a little funnier. My fear was, one of the things that worked so well in the first season is the romance and all these firsts that are so naturally romantic and sexy: first kiss, first time being with each other, first breakup, first makeup, et cetera. Now that we’re a little more domesticated, will it still have that spark? I think it does, but we’ll see.
What Brody’s Comments Mean For Nobody Wants This Season 2
Could There Be A Tweak To The Formula?
Brody is right to note that, among thecharacters inNobody Wants This, Noah tends to be the one to react to the comedic circumstances around him. Although the Netflix hit is very much a romantic comedy for the television format, with Bell and Brody as equal leads, Noah is presented asa mostly stable boyfriend who can handle a bit of tumult and uncertainty for the woman he loves, Bell’s agnostic podcaster Joanne.
Noah has his flaws, though they aren’t the kind that lead to the most comedic circumstances. Coming aftertheNobody Wants Thisseason 1 finale, in which Joanne and Noah choose to stay together, even in defiance of Noah’s community, the series has the opportunity to shake things up and do something different from the stable version of Noah presented in the first installment. It’d likely have to do that, though, while also preserving what viewers enjoyed about the show’s debut.
