While Robin often serves as the faithful sidekick toBatman, there was one DC movie that saw Robinkill Bruce Wayne’s parentsin a completely shocking twist on the original story. Batman and Robin are potentially the most iconic duo to come from comic books, having been a cornerstone of pop culture for decades now.

Generally, most Robin origin stories - for Richard Grayson, Jason Todd, or any of the other characters to hold the mantle - see Batman recruit his young ward to repel the evil that hangs over the city, and which led to his parents' deaths when he was just a child. But not every adaptation of these characters sticks to the usual script.

One DC Movie Sees Robin Set Up The Death Of Batman’s Parents

InTeen Titans Go! To the Movies- a film arguably largely aimed at younger audiences - the group of teenage heroes travel back in time. Led by Robin, they place a pearl necklace on Martha Wayne’s neck, beforeRobin pushes Martha and Thomas Wayne into an alley, where they are brutally shotand killed off-screen, completing Batman’s origin story.

This scene comes as a result of the Titans originally going back and saving the heroes' parents to try and give them better lives, which leads to a lot of other problems in the present. As such, the brutal murder of the Waynes is actually them correcting their mistakes, thoughthe way Robin does this with such glee is somewhat disturbing.

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies' Batman Origin Story Feels Even Wilder Years Later

While this is obviously played out for comedic purposes, giving this scene even a moment of thought makes it much more brutal and intense.Robin is supposed to be Batman’s ally, and more than that, they have a familial relationship. With this context in mind, Robin’s willingness - and apparent excitement - to push his parents to their death is unhinged.

There have been many different adaptations of the Batman and Robin dynamic, and there have been stories where Robin dies in Batman’s arms, but generally, the two are aligned in terms of saving people. Even when different versions of Robin rebel against Batman, they still have love for him.

This take on the character, and the depiction being set in a children’s movie, essentially disposes of all of that good will and friendship for what proves to beone of the wildest iterations of the Batman origin storyto appear on-screen. That said, it is also a funny moment in the context of the series and the film specifically.

Teen Titans Go!has always forged its own path when it comes to its stories - and, in general, these serve as a great introduction to the wider world of DC for young viewers. But tonally, these stories very different from DC’s conventional approach to its lore, as proven by the willingness to lean into dark humor around killingBatman’sparents.
