Outlander: Blood of My Bloodhas presented an intriguing new mystery before its premiere. ThisOutlanderspinoff series will follow Jamie and Claire’s respective parents, whose stories were previously outlined in the central series. Of course, since we already knew what happened to the Beachamps and Frasers, it didn’t seem as ifBlood of My Bloodcould come with many new mysteries in this regard—until now.
Thetrailer forOutlander: Blood of My Bloodseason 1came with a significant surprise.Henry and Julia Beauchamp, Claire’s parents, time-traveled to the 17th century. We even see Julia interacting with Jamie’s mother, Ellen MacKenzie. This is a game changer for theoverarching story inOutlander, and should mean a lot of excitement to come. Moreover, this detail creates an intriguing mystery.

We Now Have No Idea What Happened To Claire’s Parents
Could They Still Be Alive During Claire’s Early Adventures In Outlander?
Author Diana Gabaldon revealed in her firstOutlanderbooksthat Henry and Julia Beauchamp died in a car accident when Claire was little. This remained canon for 34 years, butOutlander: Blood of My Bloodhas officially tossed this out the window. In the season 1 trailer,we see the couple get into what should have been their fatal accident. However, rather than die, they jump through time.
This is a convenient change for theOutlanderspinoff, since it means that Julia and Henry’s story is no longer limited. While it’s fairly standard for prequel series to follow doomed characters, it’s typically a challenge to make their adventures enjoyable to audiences, as we already know how it all ends. Now,Otulander: Blood of My Bloodhas a clear path to outline a brand new story.

More interesting than the question of whether the Beuchamps will be reunited is precisely how (and when) their stories will end.
Of course, the fact that Julia and Henrydidn’tdie when Claire thought they did means that theOutlanderfranchise has a brand new mystery to deal with. For all we know, the Beauchamps are still alive during the events of Claire’s adventures inOutlander. So,where are they, and what happened to them?
Outlander: Blood Of My Blood’s Big Retcon Will Be A Series-Long Mystery
We Won’t Know What Became Of Them Until The End
It looks as if the bulk of Henry and Julia’sadventures inOutlander: Blood of My Bloodwill revolve around their efforts to reunite with one another across time and space. This is nothing new in theOutlanderfranchise, since Jamie and Claire have faced several big separations over the years. More interesting than the question of whether the Beuchamps will be reunited is precisely how (and when) their stories will end.
Since Gabaldon has always maintained that the Beauchamps died in their car crash, Starz’sOutlanderfranchise has diverged from canon in this regard. The spinoff series is on its own, and while I don’t typically enjoy such major changes from the source, I’m intrigued by this new mystery.Henry and Julia may die in some other way in the end. Or, the Beauchamps could survive and unknowingly have adventures in the same century as their daughter. We will only know the answer whenOutlander: Blood of My Bloodcomes to a close, but I’m certainly on board to watch and see.
