Batman’s Classic Blue and Gray Look is Back and Better Than Ever
A Cool Direction for The Dark Knight’s Bold, New Era
It’s been abig year for Batmanand the DCU at large. Earlier this year, Chip Zdarsky’s run onBatmancame to an end after nearly three years on the flagship title. And immediately after that saga wrapped up, the World’s Greatest Detective and the Bat-Family found themselves wrapped up in an insidious game designed by Thomas Elliot in the ongoing story arc, “Hush 2”. And that’s not even getting into the larger scope of things, such as the high-octane adventures of Bruce’s younger, more brutal counterpart inAbsolute Batman. Needless to say, there’s never a dull moment for Batman.
While there’s not much for fans to speculate on as far as the upcoming revamp’s plot, the coolest thing shown so far is Batman’s design. The blue and gray is an incredible, timeless look for Batman. As the covers show, Bruce has a new, larger logo, slick lines running down the midsection, and a utility belt with an almost bat-like buckle. Granted, there are few looks that Batman can’t pull off, but it’s quite nice to see him embracing a more colorful shade of blue.Could this warmer look for Batman indicate what fans can expect from the hero’s future?

This Classic Look Hints at What’s Next For the Caped Crusader
It’s hard not to think about Batman’s adventures during the Silver Age with that costume. While it’s unlikely Batman is going to be traveling to other planets or fighting dinosaurs, this costume does make Bruce look a lot more fun. It’s not unreasonable to suggest that DC could be bringing this outfit back as a thematic choice to highlight the new direction’s more fun, bombastic tone (if that’s, in fact, what this new series winds up being). While anything could happen in the next volume ofBatman, he’s at least going to be wearing his undeniably best costume.
