More than a year after Akira Toriyama’s passing, the future ofDragon Ball Superremains uncertain. A new rumor regarding its return or potential cancellation seems to surface every few months, and usually leads back to the same silence on the part of Shueisha. Nevertheless,Dragon Ball Superhas retained its spot in theV Jumplineup, leavingthe possibility of a return wide openwhenever execs and Toyotarou feel the time is right.

Whenever the series returns, it’s likely it will begin its slow march towards a finale. There isn’t much time left beforeDragon Ball Superreaches the end of Akira Toriyama’s original manga, and whatever conflict arises seems fated to be its last. The main cast of heroes is stronger than it’s ever been, and the unveiling ofFrieza’s all-new Black formhas set the stage for the iconic villain to reclaim his role as the ultimate antagonist, but there is another thing the series needs to get right if it wants its ending to land.

Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku looks serious with an aura of silver energy around him in Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball Super’s Finale Shouldn’t Introduce New Transformations

The Series' Main Fighters Should Remain at Their Current Power Levels

Dragon Ballhas become a relatively simple series. A new threat arrives on the scene, and the main cast of iconic heroes strugglebefore typically unveiling a new transformation and gaining the upper hand. While there are some more nuances to the plot and its events, much of the conflict can be boiled down to that simple structure. However,Dragon Ball Supermight benefit from going about its final battle a bit differently.

As the end ofDragon Ball Superdraws nearer, its most popular fighters have all reached incredible levels of strength. Goku’s Ultra Instinct seems to signal that the full potential of his fighting style has been reached, while Vegeta’s Ultra Ego has effectively landed him on similar footing. At this point in the series, it might be overkill if either were to somehow transcend the godly forms they already have, andDragon Ball Superwould benefit from keeping them right where they are.

Ultra Instinct is ultimately combat perfected. Without much thought or emotion, Goku is able to use his body to the fullest of its abilities. That body can be trained and made stronger, but the perfected Ultra Instinct should be getting more out of Goku than any other technique or transformation could. He’s already made his own variation of the form once, which allows his emotions to flow into his use of Ultra Instinct, but to go beyond it any further would just come off a little silly.

That goes for any of the fighters taking part in the series' final battle, though recent history suggests that a big fight will come with a big transformation. For best results, the series might want to revisit the teamwork of earlyDragon Ball, considering the team is the best it’s ever been.

Dragon Ball’s Main Fighters Are Finally On Equal Ground

Dragon Ball’s Cast Is Stronger Than It’s Ever Been, and It Should Stay That Way

While transformations might be one ofDragon Ball’s main selling points, the cast now being on relatively equal footingwith one another is a major reason why a new one shouldn’t be introduced.Dragon Ball Superis often criticized for being the Goku and Vegeta show, with no other characters really having the strength to be relevant. However, followingDragon Ball Super: BrolyandSuper Hero,Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Broly are all within the same realm of power.

For the first time ever in the series, a team of powerhouses can step side by side into battle and do damage without needing one fighter to step in and save the day. By introducing new transformations, characters like Gohan and Piccolo will likely be left to fall from grace once more.Dragon Ball Superfollows a relatively simple formula, but if the series wants to come to a perfect conclusion, it will have all of its most important fighters working together towards victory.
