AlthoughGrimsburgparodiedM3GANperfectly, the show’s spoof would have been perfectly timed if the episode’s release aligned with the arrival ofM3GAN 2.0. WhileM3GANwas a huge hit, the popularity of the franchise resulted in a familiar problem for horror viewers.M3GAN’s tone balanced campy comedy and serious scares deftly, and it was never entirely clear whether viewers were expected to take the killer doll movie seriously.M3GAN’s latter half featured some laugh-out-loud comedic moments, but its opening act was genuinely tense.

This same uneasy balance was struck bytheChild’s Playfranchise, which introduced Chucky the killer doll to the public’s imagination. As hard as it might be to remember now, Chucky was a deathly serious villain in the first threeChild’s Playmovies, and it was only the fourth franchise outing,Bride of Chucky, that introduced a self-aware sense of meta-humor to the series. Later outings bounced between self-parody and gruesome horror, leaving the series as a whole with an inconsistent tone.

Grimsburg Season 2 Episode 2 Parodied M3GAN

Guest Star Kiernan Shipka Played The Killer Robot MO11Y

The animated comedyGrimsburgnailed this quality in the show’sM3GANparody, season 2, episode 2, “MO11Y.” Here, guest star Kiernan Shipka played the eponymous android, an experimental prototype designed to be a perfect children’s companion. LikeM3GAN, MO11Y hid a violent side that was soon revealed after the show’s antihero, Jon Hamm’s detective Marvin Flute, gave the robot to his son Stan as a birthday gift.

M3GAN’s campy tone makes the movie hard to parody, soGrimsburghad to come up with a clever approach to work around this.

Given her long career in horror movies and shows, Shipka is perfectly cast asGrimsburg’sM3GANparody. Shipka previously appeared inThe Blacksmith’s Daughter,Totally Killer,Longlegs,Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, andThe Silence, so she naturally acquitted herself to the role of Stan’s secretly evil robotic companion. However,M3GAN’s campy tonemakes the movie hard to parody, soGrimsburghad to come up with a clever approach to work around this.

Grimsburg’s M3GAN Parody Effectively Spoofed The Original Movie

MO11Y Highlighted Flute and Harmony’s Terrible Parenting

In “MO11Y,”GrimsburgspoofsM3GAN’s premise when MO11Y attacks both of Stan’s parents for caring more about themselves than their son’s wellbeing. Although they are embarrassed to face this reality, neither Marvin nor his bitter ex-wife Harmony can deny that they have both caused their son harm with their comically terrible parenting. As such, the duo then immediately become MO11Y’s target as she attempts to protect Stan.

.

WhileM3GAN’s titular villain starts out by targeting bullies and dogs who pick on her friend, MO11Y is quick to note that Marvin and Harmony are by far the worst influences on Stan’s life.ThisGrimsburgseason 2 gagforces the two parents to work together to defeat the doll and get their son back from Doll Town, a ghetto filled with possessed, sentient, and otherwise lethal talking toys.

Grimsburg’s M3GAN Spoof Arrived Months Before M3GAN 2.0

The Long-Awaited M3GAN Sequel Will Be Released On June 27

Although “MO11Y” is a solid parody ofM3GAN, the episode’s timing was bizarrely poor. “MO11Y” aired back in February 2025, two years afterM3GAN’s release but only a few short months beforeits long-awaited sequelM3GAN 2.0arrived. SinceGrimsburgseason 2 is still airing, pushing “MO11Y” until later in the season’s release schedule would have been an easy change that could have aligned the episode’s release with the sequel’s arrival.

Grimsburg’sM3GANstood could have aired just asM3GAN 2.0was released, and this would have been incredible timing for of the comedy series. Although the show’sM3GANparody worked well as an excuse to highlight the character flaws of Harmony and Flute when it comes to parenting, it is hard not to feel like its timing could have been better. Despite this minor shortcoming, however, fans ofM3GANshould still seek outGrimsburg’s affectionate parody of the horror comedy series beforeM3GAN 2.0arrives in cinemas later in June 2025.
