TheGears of War: Reloadedbeta took place over the past two weekends, and the experience has left a lot of fans frustrated, leading to a lot of negative feelings about the beta’s online issues, the weapons' hit registrations, and numerous other problems. TheReloadedbeta experience was rough, overall, and the beta test was virtually unplayable for some fans when it first went live. Now that the dust has settled, fans are discussing their experiences, and the beta did not make a positive first impression of the game.

In a Reddit post byNtwadumela817,a lot of fans are blasting the quality ofGears of War: Reloaded, noting that a lot of the issues that plaguedUltimate Editionare back in full force inReloaded, and some fans are wishingGears 2or3got the remaster treatment instead. UserWearestartingacultharshly criticized the quality ofReloaded, noting that while the nostalgic feel of the game is nice, fans should expect more for a re-release after 20 years, writing:“It’s Embarrassing That This Is The Product.”

Fans Aren’t Happy With Reloaded

It seems that, while the reception to the beta was mostly mixed when it was live, as time has now passed and players reflect more,a lot of that reception has now skewed more negatively. A lot of users are hopingReloadedleads to a remaster, remake, or even just a re-release ofGears 2or3, withOnimpulswriting:“Gears of war 2 was the greatest gaming I’ve ever had in my life I just hope this leads to that.”

Reloadedis thefirst time aGearsgame is on PlayStation, so some first-timeGearsplayers are also expressing disappointment, withNo_Eggplant_8141saying:“As a ps5 player I was looking forward to this game but 2 things put me off straight away. People constantly Leave games as soon as their team is losing, and the gnasher shotgun is complete trash.“Add connection issues, bullets not registering, and input latency, and a lot of fans seem to be quite disappointed byReloaded, at least from this beta representation of the game.

Our Take: The Criticisms Are Fair, But This Was Just A Beta

Did Gears Of War Need Another Remaster?

As it stands,Reloadedis, essentially,a remaster of a remaster, and while it is exciting for PlayStation fans to be able to playGearsfor the first time and with crossplay, the beta experience is leaving a lot of fans wishing it was something different. The beta was just that: a beta, so the connectivity issues could be resolved before release in August, but the core issues some fans have with the title will likely remain, asReloadedis stillGears of War: Ultimate Editionat its core, a game a lot of fans played 10 years ago.

MakingGears of War: Reloadedas an entry point into the franchise for PS5 fans is a smart idea on paper, especially sinceGears of War: E-Daywill be a prequel, also starring Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, butE-Daystill has not been confirmed to be coming to PS5. It likely will come to PS5, with this game’s release establishing a new audience on the console, but it seems likeReloadedmay struggle to maintain the existing fan base. Only time will tell whenGears of War: Reloadedreleases on August 26.
