The Super Mario Bros. Movieis finally here. Few people are as excited about it as Bowser himself, Jack Black, who even dressed up as the big bad guy for the premiere while sharing a video of him doing some classic Mario platforming.

Suffice it to say,TheSuper Mario Bros. Moviemovie has endured a rocky start as it opened on Wednesday ahead of what should be a promising weekend due to critics’ reviews hitting the Illumination and Nintendo team-up with everything they’ve got. However, the story changes once user reviews started going up online. As is often the case, Mario, Luigi, and Peach are proving to be more popular with audiences, as theSuper Mario Bros. Movieis currently strugglingwith a 53% score with critics on Rotten Tomatoes versus a 98% approval rating from audiences.

Not that Black would care about all that, as the Tenacious D frontman seems to be enjoying his time in the Mushroom Kingdom. With Black being quite the gamer, the actor shared a short but funny clip of him inhis backyard Mario level. Black doesn’t utter a single word in the video, but the familiar Mario sounds, and his Bowser power-up with the villain’s voice, hit all the right notes to make it an instant hit.

Over the past few years, Black’s internet persona has seen him give YouTube a shot. His popularity is beyond debate, as the Mario video quickly got over 500,000 likes on Instagram. Early reviews for theSuper Mario Bros. Moviehave highlighted Black’s performance, and the actor had teased for months he would channel hisSchool of Rockdays with a small musical number in the film.

After many people cast doubts on Chris Pratt’s voice acting, he appears to have nailed the assignment just like Black did from the start to play Bowser. Perhaps Black might take a swing atbuilding his own Mario Kartfor a skit next time.
