Hello Games is best known forNo Man’s Sky. But long before the British developer started working on that far-flung star-hopping adventure it put out a little game calledJoe Danger.

The company announced today that it has released remastered versions ofJoe DangerandJoe Danger Infinity, which are both now available on the Apple App Store. What’s more, owners of either of the previous games will receive the update for free. Hello Games founder Sean Murray says it has been working to bring Joe back for the last two years and through eight years ofdifferent Unity updates.

Both of the remastered versions come with a new engine and a graphics overhaul that will provide improved visuals, anti-aliasing, enhanced textures, and higher frame rates. TheJoe Danger Infinityremaster also includes gamepad and ProMotion support as well as extended Bluetooth support for controllers.

The side-scrolling game tasks players with guiding the fearless motorcycle stuntmanJoe Dangerthrough an array ofzany high-speed stunt races, jumping over and ducking under different obstacles. Think of the legendary real-life motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel running through a real-lifeWipeout-style obstacle course on a motorcycle. In fact, it was the team sending the 1970s windup Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle toy out windows and down halls that formed the inspiration for the character of Joe.

Since no other publishers at the time were interested in publishing the game, Hello Games went and self-published it. Anddespite both critical and even commercial success- the game did sell over a million copies - the high-flying stuntman eventually missed a jump when the Apple App store began removing older 32-bit games that were no longer supported on newer Apple devices sporting iOS11.

Hello Games launchedJoe Dangerexclusively on the PS3 back in 2010, then added aSpecial Editionfor the Xbox 360, and a “kind of” sequel withJoe Danger 2: The Movie. A PC version was made available in 2013, andJoe Danger: Infinitywas released exclusively for iOS in January 2014. A number of different versions for Android, Vita, and Touch were published during the years as well.

“Joe holds a special place in our hearts,” Murray said in a press statement. “Joe helped our studio get a foothold and establish ourselves as a company, but it’s also where we learned to make games.”

Joe Dangerouswas always one of those light-hearted games that always seemed best suited for mobile platforms. It’s good to see Hello Games is finally giving players the chance to hop back on the bike and go for another ride.
