Jurassic World Rebirthis finally here, and the fim’s director has just confirmed a callback to a classic Steven Spielberg movie. While Spielberg directed the first twoJurassic Parkmovies, he has since handed the franchise off to other filmmakers, with director Gareth Edwards helming the most recent entry, 2025’sJurassic World Rebirth.
Speaking withVanity Fair, Gareth Edwards discussed some of the Easter eggs that werehidden inJurassic World Rebirth. As it turns out, the director’s references went beyond theJurassic Parkfranchise. According to Edwards, the film actually contains a hidden Easter egg that references Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classicJaws.

At one point inJaws, Robert Shaw’s Quint puts a pedal on his feet as he is trying to wind the shark in during the latter half of the film. Interestingly, a replica of this pedal can be seen early inJurassic World Rebirth, with it being placed in the bar thatMahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaidis gambling in. Here are Edwards' full comments:
“You know Quint, Robert Shaw’s character fromJaws? You know the pedal that he puts his feet on as he’s trying to wind in the shark?” Edwards says. “There’s an exact replica of that pedal in the bar at the beginning of the film, where [Mahershala Ali] is gambling.”
What Gareth Edwards' Jaws Easter Egg Means For Jurassic World Rebirth
It Was Inspired By The Spielberg Classic
Jurassic World Rebirthhas already gotten a lot of comparisons toJaws, especially thanks to the length Mosasaurus boat chase that is seen relatively early in the film. This sequence seemed to be inspired byJaws, and it is nice to see that Gareth Edwards and the team behindJurassic World Rebirthgive a nod to the film thanks to its inspiration.
Keeping the works of Steven Spielberg close during the production ofJurassic World Rebirthwas a good thing, as he was the visionary who took charge of the first film.Spielberg’s magic is what made the originalJurassic Parkso great, and embracing the filmmaker’s history shows thatJurassic World Rebirthwanted to capture this magic again.
Our Take On Jurassic World Rebirth’s Jaws Easter Egg
It Is The Best Type Of Easter Egg
I much prefer subtle Easter eggs like thisJawsone to more in-your-face Easter eggs that reference a franchise’s past. It is nice to see films homage the films that inspired them, rather than hiding obvious Easter eggs meant to supplement a lame story throughout the film.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s Mosasaurus hunt is the best sequence in the film, and itsJawsinspirations undoubtedly helped in making it so great. Paying tribute to the 50-year-old adventure film was a smart move, andJurassic World Rebirthis better for it.
