Jurassic World Rebirthis finally here, and while it is the bestJurassic Parkmovie in 28 years, that is a massive problem for the franchise. TheJurassic Parkfranchise is interesting, as nearly every sequel has been an immense disappointment in comparison to Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original, and with four modern sequels under its belt, the series can’t seem to figure out why.
Jurassic World Rebirthis the start of the thirdJurassic Parkseries, with it moving away from Chris Pratt’s Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire and instead focusing on an all-new cast of characters.Taking place after the events ofJurassic World Dominion, the film follows a group of operatives who head to a secluded equatorial island to steal DNA from three massive dinosaurs.

The 2025 film is unique when compared to the other sixJurassic Parkfilms, as the characters and story are barely connected to the dinosaur theme park. Instead,Jurassic World Rebirth’s smuggler charactersgo to an InGen research facility where mutated dinosaurs were created, with them running into the cross-species monsters throughout their journey.
Jurassic World Rebirth Is The Best Jurassic Movie Since The Lost World
It Surpasses The Previous Four Movies
Jurassic World Rebirthis far from perfect, but it is easily thebestJurassic Parkmovie since 1997’sThe Lost World: Jurassic Park. It is generally agreed upon that the secondJurassic Parkfilm is also the second best, and while the Ian Malcolm-focused story definitely wasn’t received as well as the original Spielberg film, it is far better than the rest of the series.
Jurassic Park IIIis famously the worst one of the original trilogy, with it being a bizarre retread of the previous two movies, something that has left the movie as mostly forgotten by general audiences. 2015’sJurassic Worlddid have some fans when it was released, but it has been reassessed poorly, with it being a beat-for-beat retread of the originalJurassic Parkwith less thematic importance and more militarized raptors.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomdoes have an interesting style, but it still isn’t a good story. It pales in comparison to the original and evenThe Lost World: Jurassic Park, with it too bringing dinosaurs to the real world. Finally,Jurassic World Dominionis easily the worst film in the franchise, with it being a boring, overlong legacy sequel that brings back old cast members for nostalgia points.
When compared to all of these sequels,Jurassic World Rebirthsurpasses them all. The film has an original cast of characters and doesn’t rely on nostalgia from the first movie. It also tells a unique story, with it finally moving away from dinosaurs being in places where they’re not supposed to be, breaking out, and causing havoc until the humans can escape.
Rebirth Is A Big Improvement On The Last Two Jurassic World Movies
It Fixes A Few Of Jurassic World’s Flaws
WhileJurassic World Rebirthis better than the previous fourJurassic Parkmovies, it is an especially big improvement on the last twoJurassic Worldmovies.Jurassic World: Fallen KingdomandJurassic World Dominionhave some defenders, but they were flops with critics and audiences, with most franchise fans agreeing that these sequels don’t live up to the original, or even the 2015 reboot.
Jurassic World Rebirthfeels a lot more genuine than the previous two movies. The characters actually have arcs, and the story feels like a relatively grounded narrative that someone wanted to tell rather than a forced story made for a studio-ordered sequel. Obviously, these are low bars, but theJurassic Parkfranchise rarely meets them.
The 2025 film finally moves away from the convoluted storyline of the previousJurassic Worldtrilogy, and that’s a good thing. The InGen conspiracy story, human clones, militarized raptors, secret dinosaur auctions, and dinosaurs living among humans just became too much to keep track of, especially when the story wasn’t good enough to warrant getting invested in.
Jurassic World Rebirth Is Still A Very Flawed Movie
There Is A Lot Wrong With The Movie
WhileJurassic World Rebirthis better than some of its predecessors, it is still a very flawed movie. One of the big flaws with the film is that it doesn’t seem to be saying much.Jurassic Park’s central dramatic argument is key to why its story is so interesting.Jurassic World Rebirthnot only moves away from this, but it also doesn’t replace it with any theme of its own.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s story is also incredibly predictable. It is clear which disposable side characters are going to die from the very beginning, and the same can be said for the film’s twist villain. The characters don’t change at all, with them coming to the island with a goal, completing that exact goal, and leaving without any interesting narrative developments.
The film is also much uglier than its 1993 counterpart, with nearly every shot being backlit, continuing a horrible trend that has plagued Hollywood for years now. The pace ofJurassic World Rebirth’s editing is also incredibly odd, with it being full of unimportant inserts and cutaways that make viewers struggle to find their footing in a scene.
Rebirth Is Another Reminder That Nothing Will Come Close To Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg’s Original Can’t Be Beat
Jurassic World Rebirthis another disappointment, reminding viewers that nothing will ever come close toJurassic Park.Steven Spielberg’sJurassic Parkis a near-perfect movie, with a strong thematic backbone, interesting character arcs, masterful direction, and leaps in technology coming together to collect lightning in a bottle.
It is hard to combine all of these elements in an original movie, much less a franchise with a concept as restricted asJurassic Park. It is hard to think of a way thatJurassic World Rebirthcould have gotten even close to the quality of the original, as six failed sequels have proven that this will probably never happen.
