Following theKaiju No. 8season 1 finale, Kafka has officially been spared so that he can use his Kaiju powers for the benefit of the Defense Force. Going right along with that, Kafka and others found themselves being moved to new places within the Defense Force, and the timing couldn’t have been better, as episode #13 ended on an ominous note that surely sets up the next major conflict. It was an episode that was surprisingly light on drama, but that’s all bound to change within the coming weeks.

What Happened In Kaiju No. 8 Episode 13?
Produced By Production I.G; Directed By Mineo Oe
InKaiju No. 8episode #13, “Kaiju Weapon”, several days had passed since Kafka was spared by the Defense Force, and everyone is simply going about their lives until they get word on what to do next. The only one other than Kafka going through a change was Kikoru, as she had been officially transferred to the First Division, the top division in the Defense Force.
On her first day in the First Division, Kikoru was introduced to Captain Gen Narumi, someone hailed as one of the strongest soldiers in the Defense Force. When Kikoru met Narumi, however, she saw a lazy slob playing video games in a dark room littered with trash and toys being treated like a child by his second-in-command, so she quickly lost respect for Narumi and the First Division as a whole.

All of that was quick to change, however, when Kikoru went to observe the First Division handle an attack from a massive Kaiju. Not only were the regular members incredibly strong and efficient, but Narumi especially stood out for how he defeated the Kaiju in a single attack, and it all worked to help Kikoru regain her respect for the First Division.
Sometime later, Kafka was called into a meeting whereIsao Shinomiya declared that Kafka would join the First Division. Narumi initially rejected the idea, saying that he had all the power they needed, but Kafka’s determination convinced Narumi to okay the idea, if only temporarily. The episode then ended with Isao observing something in a lab, and in a post-credits scene, a giant, mysterious sinkhole opened up in the middle of a city.

Kaiju No. 8 Unfortunately Fumbles Its Season 2 Premiere
Why Kaiju No. 8 Episode 13 Didn’t Work
There was plenty of hype fortheKaiju No. 8season 2 premiere, but unfortunately, it didn’t do much to live up to it. Not only was the episode incredibly light on action, but the narrative bits were also fairly shallow, as they were focused primarily on setting up new events for season 2. Nothing is different from how things went in the manga, but that doesn’t change howKaiju No. 8’s poor pacing kept season 2 from premiering on a high note.
That doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth watching, of course. Not only was the animation as great as ever, but Narumi already looks to be a great addition to the cast, and even with the episode mostly being setup, everything it’s building to has a perfect air of suspense to it all that will be great to watch play out. Despite a bad start,Kaiju No. 8is still plenty exciting, and hopefully, episode #14 will be a much better showing.
Be sure to watchKaiju No. 8episode #14 when it releases on Saturday, July 26.
