KPop Demon Huntershas sold out hundreds of movie theaters after its record-smashing streaming premiere. The animated fantasy musical, which debuted on Netflix on June 20, follows the fictional KPop group Huntr/x, who moonlight as demon hunters and must face off against the demonic boy band, the Saja Boys.

The movie has held a place on Netflix’s global Top 10 English-language movies chart for nine consecutive weeks and is currently No. 1. Additionally, multiple songs from theKPop Demon Hunterssoundtrackappeared on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Golden” reaching No. 1. It has since becomethe second most-watched movie on Netflix in history, behind 2021’sRed Notice.

The Saja Boys lined up in KPop Demon Hunters

PerThe Hollywood Reporter, Netflix’s upcoming two-day theatrical presentation ofKPop Demon Hunters: A Sing-Along Event, which will come to theaters on August 23 and 24, has been booked in 1,700 theaters and counting across North America, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.1,000 of its showtimes have already sold outas of Tuesday, August 19.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters

It is currently unknown how much money2025’sKPop Demon Hunterswill make at the worldwide box office by the end of its two-day special appearance in theaters, because showtimes continue to be added, andit is currently unknown exactly what capacities the sold-out theaters have.

However, presuming that tickets are roughly $15 and each showtime has about 100 seats apiece, this means thatthe movie is probably already set to earn about $1.5 million or more with pre-sales alone. Presumably, that number will continue to rise as the weekend approaches.

If it is able to hit a weekend gross between $4 and $5 million at the domestic box office, which is certainly not out of the realm of possibility given the current projections of $5 to $10 million,KPop Demon Hunterscould potentially add a spot in the domestic Top 10 to its many records.

This is the case because, while there are a number of new releases flooding theaters during that weekend (including Ethan Coen’sHoney Don’t!, the English dub ofNe Zha II, and the Riz Ahmed thrillerRelay),it seems unlikely that many of them will debut with more than $4 million.

Our Take On The KPop Demon Hunters Box Office

Even though more and more streamers have found success with theatrical runs for their streaming titles in recent years,Netflix has long avoided giving robust theatrical releases to their original movies. This has been the case even though the three-day limited release ofGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mysteryhit No. 3 at the domestic box office in 2022.

However, the fact that they are giving such a wide release toKPop Demon Hunters, and that it is already performing so well, could be a portent that some of the biggestNetflix moviesare going to come to theaters much more often in the near future, especially if the majority of them perform similarly well.
