What’s Coming for Galactus?

The Cosmic God’s Death Will Have Devastating Consequences for the Marvel Universe

Death of the Silver Surferwill follow the Silver Surfer as he battles two different enemies - a deadly new threat emerging from Earth and an unknowncosmic threat with links to Galactus. Fans don’t yet know exactly what’s coming for the cosmic hero, but given his ability to travel through time, transmute matter and unleash powerful energy blasts, it’s going to be something suitably epic. That’s especially true if it’s something that Galactus himself created.

In the past,Galactus has created numerous monstrosities. While several of his heralds have used their powers for evil, he’s also fashioned many different robotic lifeforms to help in his quest to feed on living planets. Easily Galactus' most powerful creation so far is Tyrant, the artificial ‘son’ of Galactus who grew to godlike power after being rejected by his creator.

It’s possibleTyrant is about to returnto Marvel continuity, but it’s more likely that a brand new threat is on the way. While this will put Silver Surfer’s life on the line, Dike Ruan’s art of Galactus' demise suggests way bigger consequences. Galactus isn’t just a villain - he’s a vital part of the cosmic order. In the past, Galactus' defeat has had major consequences, including the multiversal predator Abraxas breaking through to destroy Marvel’s mainstream universe.

Losing a hero on the level of the Silver Surfer is a huge problem for Marvel’s heroes, but if this new cosmic threat killsGalactus, the consequences will be orders of magnitude more serious, suggestingDeath of the Silver Surferis due to be one of the most consequential stories of the year.

Death of the Silver Surfer #1is coming June 11 from Marvel Comics.
