A new adult animated series,Mating Season, has been announced byBig Mouthcreators. Starting in 2017,Big Mouthfeatures Nick Kroll as the lead voice actor, with a supporting cast that includes John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Maya Rudolph, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jordan Peele, Andrew Rannells, Jenny Slate, andAyo Edebiri. The series was co-created by Kroll, Mark Levin, Jennifer Flackett, and Andrew Goldberg.
Per Netflix, theBig Mouthcreators haveannounced their next adult animated series calledMating Season, which focuses on a story “about actual grown-ups. Who happen to be animals. Who are also cartoons.” All fourBig Mouthcreators will return as ideators for the series, which they will also executive produce through Brutus Pink. Additional executive producers include Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina. Netflix released the first-look image forMating Season, which can be found below:

Big Mouth Is Entering Its Final Season
The development ofMating Seasonwas not the only news that Netflix broke about theBig Mouthteam recently. The platform also mentioned that the team is touring the country over the next few weeks to screen some of the new season 8 episodes and release exclusive merchandise.Big Mouthseason 8will be the series' last,and it seems Netflix is going all-in on its promotion. This also means thatMating Season’s announcement comes at a significant time, for it will be on the heels ofBig Mouth’s final season.
The new art forMating Seasongives an idea of what the new show’s characters will look like. While they will take on animal forms — with their apparent leads being a raccoon, a bear, a fox, and a deer —the series will anthropomorphize these character designs. For example, all four of these lead characters stand on two legs. The deer positions one of its arms on its hip, showing off its humanlike curvaceous form. Very little plot information is available aboutMating Season, but the first art gives some sense of its adult tone.

It Will Be Interesting To Contrast The Show With Big Mouth
I’m particularly intrigued by how the show’s team is associatingMating SeasonwithBig Mouth. Brutus Pink noted thatBig Mouthtold “stories about growing up” whereasMating Seasonwill transition to “stories about actual grown-ups.” This will be an interesting growth fromBig Mouth, even though the new Netflix series will filter the experience of adulthood through a non-human ensemble. Maintaining Brutus Pink’s signature animated style, it will be interesting to see how the tones ofBig Mouthcarry over and/or change forMating Season.
