The Devil Is Now In The MCU Making Deals

Marvel Studios' Iron Man replacement is Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams. After debuting inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri’s story continued recently on Disney+‘sIronheart. In the season finale,Marvel finally debuted Mephisto. The character was first rumored to join the franchise four years ago inWandaVision. However, he did not, with Mephisto and the Olsen’s Scarlet Witch not yet meeting.

The MCU’s Mephisto is played by Sacha Baron Cohen, as had been rumored, and he completely changed the show. Ironheart made a deal with the devil, allowing Mephisto to seemingly prey on her soul in exchange for the villainresurrecting Natalie, her best friend. Before that, Mephisto made a similar deal with the Hood, showing how he is expanding.

Mephisto

After Mephisto was rumored to join the MCU for years, I doubt we saw the last of him inIronheart’s season finale. It has become clear thatthe devil is making deals all over the MCU, and it is possible that will grow in importance in the future of the MCU. After all, there are rumors that the Midnight Suns are coming.

The Scarlet Witch died in theDoctor Strangesequel, but after the character’s surge in popularity during the Multiverse Saga, Wanda Maximoff’s return is all but guaranteed. That is especially true withElizabeth Olsen game to return as the Scarlet Witch. While she has yet to appear after her death,Marvel has started planting the seeds for Wanda’s anticipated return.

Different versions of the Scarlet Witch have appeared in the animated What If…?

WandaVisionseason 2 might not have happened, but a spinoff did.Disney+‘sAgatha All Alongtook only seconds to start setting up the Scarlet Witch’s return. Agatha Harkness starts the show under the Scarlet Witch’s spell, with her Agnes persona believing she is a police detective solving a murder case. The victim turns out to be the Scarlet Witch.

Kathryn Hahn’s witch then turned to the camera, saying, “You never know,” before winking.

Agnes asked her partner, “She is dead though, isn’t she Herb?” He replied positively, and Kathryn Hahn’s witch then turned to the camera, saying, “You never know,” before winking. That was Marvel’s way of teasing fans about Wanda’s return.Agatha All Alongalso confirmed Mephisto existed, as Nicholas Scratch, Agatha’s son, was rumored to be an agent of Mephisto.

MCU Theory: Mephisto’s Comics Story Is Flipped To Resurrect The Scarlet Witch

Sacha Baron Cohen’s New Marvel Villain Is Linked To Wanda Maximoff In The Comics

With Mephisto and the Scarlet Witch both being teased in the same project, it is interesting that Marvel has now brought the villain to the MCU. The two characters are linked in the comics, withMephisto being crucial to one of the most important events in the Scarlet Witch’s life: The birth of her twin sons.

In Marvel Comics, the Scarlet Witch used pieces of Mephisto’s soul to create her sons. However, that did not happen in the MCU, as her magic was powerful enough to cast a Hex over Westview and create her dream reality with Vision and her kids. Now that Mephisto is in the MCU, a Marvel theory flips that comic book story.

Instead of Wanda using Mephisto’s soul to create her sons,Joe Locke’s Billy Maximoff, who shares his mother’s powers, could do it to resurrect her. We know that Mephisto is able to resurrect people in the MCU as he brought back Natalie. Given that storyline and his comic history, the devil would be perfect for the Scarlet Witch’s return.

Where Could Mephisto And The Scarlet Witch’s Paths Cross In The MCU?

Marvel’s Slate Of Projects Includes Major Events In The Coming Years

WithIronheartnow over and Wanda Maximoff not making sense for a possible season 2, Mephisto and the Scarlet Witch’s paths would have to cross elsewhere. The MCU will soon see the release of two Avengers movies. If Wanda is to be part of them,Mephisto could be involved in eitherAvengers: DoomsdayorSecret Warsfor her to return.

Marvel Studios will also have a project directly related to the Scarlet Witch.2026’s Vision series will feature Paul Bettany’s White Vision coming to terms with his past afterWandaVision. Both of his sons, Billy and Tommy, the latter who had his soul find a body at the end ofAgatha All Along, could be in the show.

The Scarlet Witch’s MCU return happening there would make sense, with the family reunited and Billy accessing Mephisto’s soul. Alternatively,Marvel has slowly been setting up the MCU’s Young Avengers. A team project could focus on Billy and Tommy fighting to resurrect their mom. AScarlet Witchsolo movie could also feature Mephisto, making the most of that possible storyline.
