Arc System Works, in conjunction with Team French CaliBurst, have decided to suspend Mike Zaimont, founder of Lab Zero, from working on theGuilty GearGGPO project any longer due to outstanding allegations. This comes as something of a surprise, as it seems likeboth teams knew about the allegations before hiring him onto work on the project.
The GGPO update promises to bringGuilty Gearplayers unprecedented low levels of lag, making online interactions feel much smoother altogether. It’s understandable that this was a very high priority, but it still strikes many as odd that Arc System Works would prioritize this over its own policy to condemn illegal and inappropriate conduct. In a statement, Arc System Works claimed to have overlooked certain aspects of its harassment policy in an attempt to put its users first.

The whole situation is pretty bizarre, as it seems like Zaimont was hired on under the pretense that he would somehow resolve the allegations levied against him. His work helped make the GGPO update possible, and then as soon as it went live he was booted on the spot. Fans have vastly differing opinions about Zaimont, but most agree that this kind ofbehavior seems exploitative from Arc System Works.
The allegations against Zaimont are pretty severe, but many feel Arc System Works should never have hired him if they felt it would become a problem later down the road. The bright side to this whole situation is thatGuilty Gearplayers are enjoying rollback netcode, but it comes with a strange and sour taste due to the peculiar circumstances.
