Mojang Studios announced earlier this year that MineCon 2020, the annual in-person celebration of all thingsMinecraft, was canceled. The convention was originally planned for September 25-27, but the COVID-19 pandemic ended that. At the time, however, Mojang confirmed thatMineCon’s digital companion Minecraft Livewas still planned. News about Minecraft Live has remained scant since, until now, as Mojang’s confirmed Minecraft Live airs on October 3.
Minecraft Live will be carrying the weight of what should be the entire MineCon convention this year. Mojang is dedicating itself to delivering something special, knowing how challenging 2020 has been forMinecraftfans. As such, fans can look forward to a variety ofMinecraftnews during the show, presented byMinecraftcontent creators and developers. The annual community vote will also be returning, lettingMinecraftplayers pick the next unit to join the game.

To tease the event, Mojang dropped cute new animated announcement trailer. The trailer shows a zombie kid chasing a chicken through various environments, past various enemies. The Nether is shown, as are many elements fromMinecraft Dungeons. SomeMinecraftfans believe it’s teasing a cave update forMinecraft, given the trailer starts in a cave. There may be many teasers for players to parse, for that matter. But fans will have to wait for Minecraft Live to learn for sure.
TheMinecraft Liveevent will be a fully pre-recorded broadcast that will be shared via live streaming platforms including Facebook, Youtube, and Twitch. To watch it live, tune in on October 3 at 9:00 am PT/noon ET, or watch the recording which will be made available afterward. Stay tuned for more details in the weeks to come.
Minecraftis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
