With all of its ongoing issues aside,Monster Hunter Wildstook several great leaps forward for the series, both in terms of offering a grander scale and even more monster-hunting variety than its predecessors. Despite lacking the Wirebug Skill abilities ofMonster Hunter Riseor the variety of side quests and decoration inMonster Hunter World, the latestMonster Hunter Wildsdoes adapt several long-standing aspects of its beloved spin-off series.

Even thoughMonster Hunter Worldwas the first game in the franchise to introduce rideable mounts to the series, the concept has been expanded in each entry that followed.AlthoughMonster Hunter Wildsdoesn’t offer full-blown monster taming aside from Seikret riding, it’s still the closest we’ve come to achieving the effect ofMonster Hunter’spotentially franchise-saving spinoff series.

Monster Hunter Stories Is A Worthwhile Addition To The Series

Offering A Fresh Experience For Monster Hunter Fans

Concentrating the core elements ofMonster Hunterinto a family-friendly spinoff wasn’t an easy task, butMonster Hunter Storiesdoes more than achieve the simple concept by incorporating a classic JRPG formula into the mix.

Taking place in a faraway land that doesn’t abide by the same rules as regular hunters, the cast ofMonster Hunter Storiesrelies on taming monsters for their survival and hatching companions to fight alongside, rather than simply slaying them left and right.

Monster Hunter Rise has even includedMonster Hunter Stories-themed collaboration content in the past, making the chances of future non-canonical crossovers even more likely.

Out of all the spinoff games in theMonster Hunterfranchise, from card games to several mobile games,Monster Hunter Storiesis easily its most successful by far, with a remake under its belt and a third entry on the way. It’s clear there is still more than enough popularity to warrantStories' inclusion in the mainline series, bringingunforgettable monster encountersand new opportunities for unique storytelling potential toWilds.

Finally Connecting The Two Sides Of Monster Hunter’s World

Even if the family-friendly nature ofMonster Hunter Storiescompared to the more violentWildsmakes a direct story connection outside a collaboration event incredibly unlikely,Wildsalready has a surprising number of similarities with the spinoff series.

Aside from taming Wingdrakes and, most recently, Seikrets for travel and companionship, the entire concept of taming monsters and using them for survival makes up the latter half ofMonster Hunter Wilds' narrative with the Guardians.

While it’s still somewhat of a stretch to imagine the surviving members of the Keeper’s Vigil achieving the feat of full-blown monster taming, that doesn’t mean there can’t be remnants of the concept.

Whether in the form of simple references, slaying the former mount of a legendary monster tamer, to even encountering one of the Keeper’s surviving ancestors still engaging in the practice, incorporatingStories' worldbuilding could be an easy way tosaveMonster Hunter Wildswith an even more engaging DLC storyline.
