My Big Fat Fabulous Life’s Whitney Thore has always had a larger-than-life personality and outlook on life, andthe lengths she’s going to become a mother are right in line with her outrageous ways. The TLC reality show has been on their since 2015, and now thatMy Big Fat Fabulous Lifeseason 13has premiered, Whitney is filling fans in on what she’s been up to, and what she has planned for her future.
After turning 40 and giving up finding a life partner,Whitney has decided that her dreams of becoming a mom can’t wait any longer. In the premiere, she said in a confessional that becoming a mother “is something I need to do for myself. Until I intentionally attempt to get pregnant, I am not going to be able to move in life.”

With such a bold statement,Whitney backs up her claim by deciding to try artificial insemination. This being Whitney, she’s not going to a doctor’s office for traditional treatment, but instead, she’s going online to choose a donor and purchase the required ingredients over the web. Ah, technology.

Whitney has been openabout her desire to become a mom. In seasons past, she’s explored adoption, only to be told that she wasn’t a viable candidate.Whitney was diagnosed with PCOSin college, and the syndrome significantly reduces her fertility, so the chances of her gettting pregnant naturally are slim.
In 2016, Whitney thought she had gotten pregnant naturally withthen-boyfriend, Lennie Alehat, but it was a false-positive pregnancy test, which devastated Whitney.

Her dreams of becoming a mom seemed further away than ever.
Whitney has also explored in vitro fertilization and surrogacy, but nothing has worked out for her. By opening herself up to the option of artificial insemination,Whitney feels like it’s her last chance for parenthood.

Whether it’s her best friend, Tal Fish, or her dance partner, Todd Beasely,Whitney’s never struggled with maintaining friendships. She also often drags her friends into her shenanigans, and they’re usually more than supportive.
As Whitney faces this next life chapter, who better to look for a sperm donor with than her friends like Todd and Ashley Baynes? Whitney invites them to help her pick a sperm donor as they meet for coffee one day, and together, they go through the list of options,eliminating those who aren’t up to Whitney’s standards.
In another scene, Whitney’s bestie Tal comes over to do a mock insemination, even bringing over supplies like a turkey baster. It’s all in good fun, and keeps Whitney’s spirits high.Her friends are always around for comedic reliefand to lighten the mood, when needed.
Whitney’s trainer, Jessica Powell, who is still grieving the death of her father, Will Powell, from cancer, joins Whitney in a scene to help her look at potential donors. Jessica and her husband, Isaiah, are also struggling with fertility, so it’s an issue they have bonded over. With their help,Whitney chooses a donor and places an order.

Whitney’s Sperm Arrives In Nitrogen Tank
In a later scene, Whitney receives her special delivery. A large box arrives, and it contains a nitrogen tank of frozen sperm. An ecstatic Whitney rips it open and stares at the large blue tank,stunned that this was simply shipped to her.
“One thing I love about this modern world is the ability to have almost anything you want right at your fingertips.”
Of course, as it’s a delivery of frozen sperm, Whitney can’t help but make jokes about how she didn’t realize the package would be this large.This situation is ripe for humor, and Whitney delivers.
Whitney immediately calls her friend Ashley to show her the package on FaceTime. The two friends giggle over Whitney’s special delivery, and Whitney even said that one thing that she loves about her friends isthey’re never surprised by her antics.
In addition to the frozen sperm, Whitney also ordered an insemination kit online, making this process almost too easy.
In a confessional, Ashley said that she figured this self-inseminationplot of Whitney’s would never really happen, because Whitney always has a lot of ideas that never go anywhere.
This time, though,Whitney has the goods, and she’s taking matters into her own hands. Even after her family teases her about her unconventional route to motherhood, they are still supportive of her. Whitney jokes that after all this time, if she wanted “an idiot to impregnate her,” she could have done that years ago. She’s being more intentional now, and she chose a donor whom she felt would be compatible with her.
By the end of the second episode of season 13,Whitney’s friends are over at her house, helping her sage her body to prepare for insemination. They do some fertility rituals, like painting Whitney’s stomach with an egg wash, intended to help her conceive. Her friends give her some privacy for the actual insertion.
While her friends enjoy a glass of wine,MBFFLWhitney tries to get herself pregnant. Despite a feeling of panic, she also feels relieved. She says the process was very efficient, and she’s hopeful that it works so thather dreams of motherhood become a reality.
