Horikoshi Says His New Manga is At the Concept Stage
In an interview with Men’s Non-no, a Japanese magazine, that was posted to Reddit by /u/NatMat16 and translated by Shibuyasmash, Horikoshi spoke about his plans for his next manga. When asked about working on a new series, he answered thusly:
Yes, I’m already in the concept stage. Luckily, there is something I still want to do that I couldn’t do with MHA, so I’m hoping to channel that feeling into this. When I announce my next series, I hope it will be in Weekly Shonen Jump. So, I’m working on the concept now, thinking about how I want to challenge myself to Jump one more time.
Horikoshi had previously statedhe would start working on a new manga “as soon as possible,“and it seems he wasn’t kidding. Admittedly, the concept stage isn’t very far along in the development process, but it shows that Horikoshi isn’t content to rest on his laurels for even a moment before jumping back into the manga game.

It’s interesting that Horikoshi wants to return toShonen Jump, as the weekly grind was proving difficult for him by the end ofMy Hero Academia. The fact that he wants his next series inWeekly Shonen Jumpis somewhat revealing as well, as it indicates he’s going to be writing another shonen series.
Many fans noted that, throughout the later chapters ofMy Hero Academia, Horikoshi had a preference for horrific imagery, and have speculated that a horror manga might be what’s next for him.Horikoshi himself has not addressed the genre of his next work, but the fact that he wants to do what he “couldn’t do withMHA,” suggests it will be different.
