MostNarutofans are quite familiar with the Akatsuki organization, a group of rogue ninjas who abandoned their villages after being branded as criminals. While most fans of the series love the strong members of this mysterious team, some have never received the proper recognition they deserve. One perfect example is the only female ninja in the organization: Konan.
Despite being feared and respected by her peers, she had little impact on the overall story, which has caused many fans to underestimate her strength. Yet, her most impressive feat in the series proves how mighty she truly is. Konan is one of the few characters who can claim to have defeated Obito before theFourth Great Ninja War arc.
Konan Is More Powerful Than Fans Believe
Obito Would Have Realistically Lost the Battle
Shortly after Nagato gave his life to resurrect everyone who died during his battle against Naruto, one of the best in the franchise, Konan took his body back home to let him rest. Obito, who at the time was pretending to be Madara Uchiha, visited the Hidden Rain Village looking for the corpse, as he wished to recover his Rinnegan.
Konan, who had become disillusioned with the man, refused to share the location of Nagato’s grave, instead opting to fight the Uchiha head-on. The woman knew that Obito’s style relied heavily on using his Kamui to either become intangible or teleport far from danger. She adapted her strategies to directly counter his techniques.
By overwhelming the Uchiha with thousands of explosive tags, Konan managed to not only cause massive damage to her opponent but also prevent him from escaping the battle. Obito could do nothing to counter her attacks, and was forced to use his Izanagi,one of the Uchiha clan’s story’s biggest flaws, to change his destiny and survive the attack.

Only Konan Pushed the Man So Hard Besides the Main Cast
Although the battle between Obito andKonan is often disregarded byNarutofans, it is a clear example of why Akatsuki’s female member is not as weak as the community believes. Up until that point in the anime,only the Fourth Hokage was able to injure Obito in a significant way.
Konan proved herself as an outstanding strategist, analyzing her opponent and preparing countermeasures to all his techniques. Furthermore, she demonstrated control over her Chakra and Jutsu that few other characters in the series possess. The massive amount of explosive tags she controlled would take massive amounts of energy, and maintaining them hidden while fighting is also quite impressive.
Obito’s biggest mistake was underestimating his opponent by assuming that she was a weak fighter who only followed Nagato’s orders. If not for his Izanagi, a Jutsu that most fans find unfair, he would have died during this supposedly easy recovery mission. Konan is the only side character who can claim to have officially defeatedone ofNaruto’s strongest villains.
Konan’s Achievement Did Require Preparation
The Woman Was Ready for Obito To Arrive
Even though there is no denying that Konan is far stronger than fans believe, as proven by her battle with Obito, it is important to note that this achievement would not have been possible without time to prepare. The trap set under the ocean of Amegakure likely took several days to get ready, considering the staggering number of explosive tags.
Konan’s fight against Obito would have been much harder if not for this strategy, given that the man was far more resilient than her. This was proven during the first few moments of the fight, during which the kunoichi hid explosive tags among her paper stars to trick her opponent into absorbing them.
Obito was indeed hurt by this surprise attack, losing an arm and showing clear signs of exhaustion, but Konan was in no better condition. The Uchiha was several times faster than her and used much less Chakra, making it almost impossible for her to win without using her superior strategies.
Konan Deserved a Better Ending

Despite being objectively one ofNaruto’s strongest and most capable women, Konan’s ending is one of the main reasons why fans often disregard her as a character. Once her time as a villain was over, the woman was supposed to become a major ally for the titular protagonist, helping him defeat Obito and protect the world’s peace.
Her ending is far more somber and anticlimactic than a character as interesting as Konan deserves.
Yet, the story decided to remove her completely, in a battle that was never meant to be fair in the first place. No matter what Konan would have done during their fight, Obito was always meant to win and kill her.
