When asked about working with hisUnbearable Weightco-star again, suiting up and kicking some pulp space butt in pursuit of bounties and playing with Grogu, Cage shut down the idea fast. First, he says, there have been no talks. Secondly, he cuts to the heart of the issue, telling Yahoo Entertainment correspondent Kevin Polowy, “I’m not really down. I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m on theStar Trek, I’m on the Enterprise. That’s where I roll.”

His interviewer was surprised that he’d shut down the idea of popping up in theever-expandingStar Warsuniverse, saying that he didn’t know about Cage’s Trekkie credentials. Cage praised both William Shatner and Chris Pine, who played Captain James. T Kirk, the Enterprise’s captain, praised the political and sociological aspects of the franchise and then discussed his view on science fiction. “To me what science fiction is really about, and why it’s such an important genre, is that is where you can really say whatever you want, however you feel, you put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time or in the future, and you can," Cage said, noting the genre’s malleability and ability to talk about things using open allegory, and that like authors like Orwell,Star Trekembraced that nature.

It’s the type of thing that should get another segment of sci-fi nerds happy, with a wish that Cage himself would embrace if given the opportunity. Until then, Cage fans can watch him inThe Old Way.The film stars Cage as a retired gunslinger who is called back into the game after his wife is killed by a former rival.
