After weeks of speculation and anxiety, Nintendo has confirmed the new US pre-order date for theNintendo Switch 2. Along with the new pre-order date, the price of the console’s accessories, including controllers, the Nintendo Switch 2 camera, and almost all other accessories, have been adjusted. Thedate for pre-orders was originally delayedso that Nintendo could analyze the changing gaming market in response to tariffs being placed on countries like Vietnam and China, where a lot of Switch 2 manufacturing is taking place.
According toNintendo, thenew US pre-order date will be April 24. The prices of the console, the bundle withMario Kart World, and first-party games remain unchanged. However, there is a statement from Nintendo that reads:“Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future, depending on market conditions,“so there is a chance for more price adjustments in the future, including games or the console itself, and not just accessories.

Controllers, The Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, And More Now Have A Higher Price Tag
While there may be some relief that the console and game prices won’t be more expensive, as of right now, the same cannot be said for the console’s accessories and controllers. There was a roughly$5 to $10 increase for almost every Switch 2 accessory and controllerthat will be available at launch. The new prices compared to the old prices are as follows:
$79.99

$84.99

While there may be some relief that the prices aren’t even higher, given all the uncertainty and anxiety since the pre-order date was changed,it is still possible these products could get even more expensive, according to Nintendo’s statement. Additionally, the Switch 2 and the game prices could potentially see an increase in prices as well, just not at launch.Pre-order dates for Canada were also changed to April 23, so Canada’s pre-orders will begin before the US.
Our Take: The Price Increases Were Almost Unavoidable
But There May Be A Lot Of Restlessness For The Time Being
With the impact of tariffs being felt in the US and other countries and across a lot of industries, coupled with the pre-order delay, it seemed almost inevitable that at least some of the prices of the items for the Switch 2 launch would be increased. With every accessory seeing a price increase, this news is sure to disappoint a lot of Nintendo fans. The silver lining may be that the console and game prices haven’t bumped up. But with Nintendo stating that any Nintendo product could see a price change, the worry is sure to continue.
Nintendo has arguably been in crisis modesince the negative backlash from the Switch 2 reveal, and having to delay pre-orders due to market uncertainty is probably making both Nintendo and fans restless. While fans can rest easy about the console and game prices remaining the same for now, at least for launch, the future of theNintendo Switch 2, its games, and its accessories is less clear than ever.
