The trailer forSquid Gameseason 3 has revealed why the Front Man tricked Gi-hun in season 2, but the coming episodes to reveal whether it actually worked. The next and final installment ofSquid Gamewill premiere on Netflix on June 16, 2025, and it will be up to these episodes to answer for the massive cliffhanger from season 2. The last time we saw Gi-hun and his fellow competitors, they were attempting to lead an uprising against the masked guards. Unfortunately, they were sabotaged by the Front Man, who had pretended throughoutSquid Gameseason 3 to be a player.
Gi-hun unknowingly became friends with theSquid GameFront Man, since he entered the competition as Player 001—just like old man Oh Il-nam did back in season 1. The Front Man, whose real name is Hwang In-ho, went by the name Oh Young-il inSquid Gameseason 2, and he and Gi-hun developed a friendship as they participated in the games. However, the villain faked Young-il’s death before reclaiming his mask and squashing Gi-hun’s uprising. Now, the trailer forSquid Gameseason 3reveals that the Front Man will show Gi-hun his face, and his words provide some valuable answers.

The Front Man Wants To Shatter Gi-Hun’s Faith In Humanity
Did He Succeed?
As of theend ofSquid Gameseason 2and the start of season 3, Gi-hun has no idea that he accidentally became friends with the Front Man. However, the trailer forSquid Gameseason 3 reveals that the villain will unveil his face to Gi-hun in the coming episodes. When he removes his mask, showing Gi-hun that he had been Oh Young-il,he asks Player 456, “Do you still have faith in people?”
The Front Man’s line in theSquid Gameseason 3 trailer ultimately reveals precisely why he went out of his way to befriend Gi-hun. Everything this villain has done in season 2—allowing Gi-hun to reenter the games, offering the players several opportunities to leave, posing as Player 001—it was all to teach Gi-hun the same lesson that Oh Il-nam attempted to teach him in season 1. What the Front Man and the old founder of the deadly competition believe is that humanity is inherently bad, which means there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of their greed and violence for sport.

When Oh Il-nam was on his deathbed, he made a bet with Gi-hun that no one would help a dying homeless man. However, Gi-hun won the bet, and this had a significant impact on his decision to put an end to the games. The Front Man, however, is taking up Il-nam’s position in this debate of morality. It’s his goal to prove to Gi-hun that people are corrupt, ugly, and untrustworthy. The big question ofSquid Gameseason 3 will be whether or not the Front Man will be successful.
The Real Contest In Squid Game Season 3 Is Between Gi-Hun & The Front Man
Who Will Win The Debate Over Humanity?
Another interesting moment in theSquid Gameseason 3 trailer is when Gi-hun begins to desperately ask the guards why he was kept alive. After his uprising, he should have been killed with the others. However, he was instead returned to the player dorm to continue playing the game. The Front Man’s reveal later in theSquid Gameseason 3 trailerprovides an answer to Gi-hun’s question. Gi-hun must be kept alive for as long as possible—perhaps even to the very end of the contest—so that he can be shown once and for all just how horrible humanity really is.
Of course, Gi-hun can still put up a fight in the coming episodes ofSquid Game. If the Front Man successfully shatters Gi-hun’s belief in the goodness of the world, then the villain will have won. However, we have seen the Front Man’s own resolve begin to crumble in the last couple of seasons. This character has been hurt by the world, but if Gi-hun can maintain his optimism, andif the players ofSquid Gameseason 3 can demonstrate some resounding goodness, the Front Man’s perspective could change. Ultimately, this is the true contest. Whether the Front Man or Gi-hun will win is still anyone’s guess.
