Out of the hundreds of mysteries that surround the world-famousOne Piecemanga series, the identity of Luffy’s mom has always been among the most intriguing. The Straw Hat Captain’s family has always been a central part of the story, with most of its members playing a pivotal role. Yet, Luffy’s mother has never been explicitly seen.
After more than 2 decades of waiting, a new fan theory might have solved this enigma, thanks to the events of chapter #1156.According to this hypothesis, Tritoma, one of the Kuja Pirates introduced during this latest entry, could be Luffy’s mother, and the available data seems to agree with this fascinating theory.

Could Tritoma Be Luffy’s Mother?
This New Character Seems To Fit the Role
In chapter #1156 of theOne Piecemanga, fans were introduced to Tritoma, a young member of the Kuja Pirates who would become the Empress of Amazon Lily later in life. Not much is known about her, besides her time as the leader of the women-only island, home to some of thestrongest female characters in the series.
Popular theories online have pointed out the fact that Tritoma seems to share several traits with thepowerful captain of the Straw Hat pirates. Not only is her hair black, but the chapter hints at her personality being joyful and kind, much like the series’ protagonist. Other fans noted that she is one of the few female characters who wear sandals.

While these characteristics would not be enough to hint at a familial relationship with Luffy, most fans know how much Eiichiro Oda likes to include inconspicuous details that hint at a bigger truth. Just recently, the creator made one of the most underrated storylines in the series,Skypiea, one of the most important arcsfor the overall plot.
Tritoma Is the Perfect Age To Be Luffy’s Mother
Other Factors Also Seem To Hint at This Possibility
Although it might seem outlandish to believe that Tritoma is Luffy’s mother by simply looking at her hair and outfit, several other details might hint at this being the case. The most important one for many fans is her age, as chapter #1156 depicts her as a young teenager, no older than 13 or 14 years.
Since Garp, Dragon’s father and Luffy’s grandpa, also makes an appearance during this entry and looks quite young, it is fair to assume that his son could be around the same age. It might be possible that during his journey, the leader of the Revolutionary Army arrived at Amazon Lily, where he fell in love with the Empress.

All the leaders of this unique island have become enamored with men who will play a major role in history, such as Gloriosa with Gol D. Roger or Hancock with Luffy. Dragon, who was destined to become one ofOne Piece’s strongest figures, would likely attract Tritoma, resulting in Luffy being born shortly after.
One Character’s Backstory Oddly Helps This Theory
Why Did They Visit the Island?
Surprisingly, there is a character not directly linked to the Monkey family who could also hint at Tritoma being in some way related to Luffy: Bartholomew Kuma. During his backstory, which is considered by most fans asone of the saddest in the franchise, he is seen visiting several different islands.
These locations corresponded with the destinations where he sent the members of the Straw Hat crew after their brief battle in Sabaody. The only one not present in his backstory was Amazon Lily, where he teleported Luffy. There should be no reason for the former Warlord to have visited this island unless he did so as a favor to Dragon.

Some fans theorize that Kuma was sent to Amazon Lily as a child to retrieve Luffy, as males could not live on the island. This would also explain why Tritoma died from love disease, asshe could not handle the heartbreak of being away from her son. This could also explain why Kuma chose to send Luffy to this island.
The Fandom Is Divided by This Idea
Not Everyone Believes This Theory
Despite strong evidence hinting at Tritoma being the identity of Luffy’s mother, many fans are reluctant to listen to this hypothesis. The main reason is the continuous disappointment the fandom felt every time a new female character with similar traits to Luffy was introduced.Tritoma is far from the first woman that readers claim is Luffy’s parent.
Lamentably, besides the few but strong pieces of evidence found in the manga, there is little to no hope of ever finding out if Tritoma is the protagonist’s long-lost mother. One Piecefans will have to wait and see if Oda has finally decided to includemore clues about the mother of the Straw Hat Captainin future chapters.
