Last week, yet anotherDark Souls 3speedrun record was smashed by Nemz38, a prolific competitor who has made a name for himself in theDark Soulscircuit. The talented gamer cleared all Souls Level 1 bosses in an astounding 1 hour and 36 minutes, beating the old record by about half a minute. Perhaps even more notably, this feat was his eighth world record inDark Souls 3, a title known as one of the most notoriously challenging games in the modern market.
We’ve seen talented gamers play through the titlewithout taking hitsor defeating certain bosses using only their fists, but this is the first time a sole player has dominated the speedrun leaderboards ofDark Souls 3in such spectacular fashion. The UK-based gamer celebrated rather humbly on Twitter, simply tweeting out “I did it” when linking to his accolades.
Gamers can take a look at the latest Nemz speedrun here:
For the record, here’s the titles that Nemz currently holds in theDark Souls 3bracket:
His Any% speedrun time clocks in at 30 minutes and 9 seconds, a mere 16 seconds ahead of the second-placed competitor. Still, considering that two years ago the top Any% speedrun time clocked in at justunder two hours, it’s amazing to see how much the speedrunning community has been able to trim down the fastest times. For the current top ten runs, only 2 took longer than 40 minutes.
For now, there’s little doubt that Nemz is the de facto speedrun champion ofDark Souls 3. Holding one world record would be title enough for many, but not him. Evidently asked this many times, his Twitter takes a moment to reflect that he does “go to the gym and has a girlfriend, by the way”. What it doesn’t say, however, is if he is committed to holding the throne should rival speedrunners usurp any of his 8 records.
Dark Souls 3is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
