Despite season 3 leaving him in trying circumstances,Will Trentcan use Ormewood’s plight to bring back a forgotten character with major ties to the APD’s most reformed detective. Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) has one of the more interesting histories among theWill Trentcast. But one character’s disappearance from his arc needs to be addressed inWill Trentseason 4.

After years of reforming from the TV show’s initially unlikable characterization,Ormewood is now seen as a true family man who simply wants the best for his kids. And those kids will likely be affected after theWill Trentseason 3 finaleramped up the urgency of his brain tumor. Yet one of Ormewood’s children feels curiously left out.

Jophielle Love as Cooper Ormewood in Will Trent

Will Trent Season 1 Established That Ormewood Has Two Daughters (One Of Whom Is Missing)

Cooper’s Twin Has Vanished From This Plane Of Existence

Season 1, episode 3 introduces Ormewood’s family when Angie (Erika Christensen) comes over for dinner. In addition to Michael’s son, Max (Owen Trumbly),Angie meets Ormewood’s twin daughters, Cooper and Janie (Jophielle Love). Although Cooper remains on the show to this day, Janie disappears after season 1 and has not been seen even once since. This comes up on the fan subreddit quite frequently.

In most circumstances, Janie’s disappearance wouldn’t be a big deal. The fact that Janie always faces away from the camera suggests there was difficulty casting twins to play Ormewood’s daughters, and it’s easier to retcon Janie out than to have Jophielle Love play two characters. But Janie’s absence shouldn’t remain ignored after Ormewood’s most recent character development.

Will Trent Season 4 Can Bring Back Ormewood’s Missing Daughter In Response To His Tumor Scare

Her Absence Shouldn’t Be Too Hard To Explain

In no small part due toWill Trent’s differences from the books, Ormewood’s relationship with his children is a major part of season 3. Whereas he cares far more about other things in Karin Slaughter’s original story,Ormewood deciding to share his diagnosis with his children rather than handling it alone is an important moment of character growth.

Unfortunately,Ormewood’sWill Trentseason 3 cliffhangermakes it seem as if the tumor could be attacking him at a much quicker rate than first anticipated. With Ormewood potentially on his deathbed,Will Trenthas established the best possible storyline for bringing back Janie and explaining her absence. And it shouldn’t be all that difficult to accomplish.

BecauseMichael Ormewood’sWill Trentstoryturns him into a more sympathetic character than in the books, it’s believable that his children would want to see him before he dies.Janie could have spent this time anywhere from a boarding school to a family member’s place, provided the series even gives a one-line excuse for why she was absent for so long.

With even such a simple explanation,Will Trentcan establish a reason for Janie’s absence while bringing her back for an important storyline. Even if she’s recast, Janie is featured on camera so little that it won’t have much impact. The series must simply decide whether to stick with the retcon or undo it while they have the most opportune chance.
