Outlander: Blood of My Bloodactor Rory Alexander has toldScreenRantwhat is going on with the Frasers in the upcoming prequel series. Alexander plays a younger version of Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser in theOutlanderspinoff, and sat down withScreenRantat theSan Diego Comic-Conto discuss the series along with several of his castmates.
Joining Alexander wereOutlander: Blood of My Bloodshowrunner Matthew B. Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis, as well as Harriet Slater (Ellen MacKenzie), Hermione Corfield (Julia Moriston), Jeremy Irvine (Henry Beauchamp), Sam Retford (Dougal MacKenzie), and Seamus McLean Ross (Colum MacKenzie).

Speaking withScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender,Alexander shared some of the ways that the Fraser family is different in the prequel than in Outlander. “Where Clan Fraser is right now is Lord Lovat, and Lovat is in disgrace,” the actor said, explaining that Brian Fraser’s father is “a turncoat, a spinless jelly—whatever you want to call him.” See Alexander’s full comment below:
ScreenRant: If I can turn my attention to Rory. Can you tell us where Clan Fraser is right now?

Rory Alexander: So, where Clan Fraser is right now is Lord Lovat, and Lovat is in disgrace. He’s a bit of a wheeler-dealer, he’s a turncoat, a spineless jelly—whatever you want to call him. Our house [head] really isn’t working, we have less than three horses, there’s a massive hole in the wall of the castle.
The Frasers are also in disarray. They’re currently shabby, they want to be chic, and it’s all about leveling up for Lord Lovet. The Frasers could be on the up, but Brian does sort of hold the key to that. Unless Murtagh can maybe fashion some sort of alliance with a rich and powerful gang. It’s a highly complex situation.
What Rory Alexander’s Comments Mean For The Frasers In Outlander: Blood Of My Blood
This Family’s Reputation Will Look Different In The Prequel Series
The centralOutlanderseries spent some time exploring the politics of the Highlander clans in previous seasons, including discussions on Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat (played by Tony Curran in the prequel). This was Jamie Fraser’s grandfather. Jamie’s father, Brian (played by Jamie RoyinOutlander: Blood of My Blood), is Lord Lovat’s bastard son, who was eventually legitimized.
Lord Lovat was a miserable character inOutlander, and it’s evident that this quality will carry over intoOutlander: Blood of My Blood. Under this man’s leadership, the Frasers won’t have the same sort of respect as Brian’s clan eventually would as Laird of Lallybroch. It’s for this reason that the respected MacKenzies are so at odds with the Frasers, making Ellen and Brian’sBlood of My Bloodromance taboo.
Our Take On Rory Alexander’s Fraser Family Summary
This Dynamic Can Make Brian & Ellen’s Romance More Powerful
Lord Lovat, who’sbased on a real historical figure, had a somewhat diminished role in the centralOutlanderseries, but he was still a pretty clear piece of work.I’m intrigued by the promise that we will see more about what this character’s leadership will mean for the Frasers, especially in relation to Alexander’s Murtagh and Roy’s Brian and their shared affection for Ellen MacKenzie.
Brian and Ellen’s romance has always had a sort ofRomeo and Julietfeel to it when it was discussed in theOutlanderTV show. Now,Outlander: Blood of My Bloodwill delve into this in more detail, establishing the conflict between the Frasers and MacKenzies leading up to some of the earliest Jacobite uprisings in Scotland. Suffice it to say, there’s a lot of excitement on the horizon.
