The cosmic empires of the Marvel Universe have been thrown into chaos, leaving the world known as ‘Planet Hulk’ without a ruler. But as a new hero steps into the role, the carnage on the way is launching a brand new series.
Announced today at the “Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing” Panel atSan Diego Comic-Con, the publisher unveiled the ways in whichtheImperialevent’s bombshellsare reshaping the cosmos. And howJennifer Walters will step up to rule Sakaar inPlanet She-Hulk, beginning later this year.

SAKAAR, PARTY OF ONE! She-Hulk is back, and she’s… stuck on Sakaar?? Jennifer Walters made a promise to her cousin, Hulk, to watch over the planet Sakaar and its people for a few days. But it’s been longer than a few days, and now She-Hulk is in charge of keeping the peace on a planet at war! But Jennifer is a VERY different Hulk than the one that once smashed Sakaar into submission…is she up for the task?
With the first cover art ofShe-Hulk on the throne of Sakaar once held by Hulk and his son, comes the confirmation of the creative team with writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Aaron Kuder. Starting in November,Planet She-Hulkwill launch from a range of one-shots spreading theImperialstory across Marvel space.
Planet She-Hulk is The Epic Story Jen’s Been Waiting For
The New Series Promises Intrigue, Politics, And A Lot of Action
The first announcement of the series is putting Jennifer Walters' strengths front and center. Not only is she capable of breaking skulls, swinging swords, and crushing uprisings, but Jen’s brains may prove to be her most valuable asset. As Stephanie Phillips teases,She-Hulk’s brain and brawn will both keep her alivein the days to come:
“I’m so excited. Working with Aaron is so exciting, it’s fantastic… think big game of thrones. Think things not always related to She-Hulk. She’s ripped into a world that she’s not used to, and she has to bring her own sensibilities to it when she’s now facing witches, rebels, and cannibals…it’s going to be great. We wanted to go big. She’s got a giant sword, PLEASE let us use it.”
The preview art teased during the panel (viaAiPT) lends credence to the writer’s words, showing Jen establishing her rule in the clearest, most powerful way possible.
Planet She-Hulk Could Turn Into A Long-Running, Ongoing Series
She-Hulk is Made To Be A Queen, And Marvel May Know It
Most notable about this series, along withthe newly announcedNova: Centurion, is that while it is theImperialevent which launches its story,Planet She-Hulkis explicitly described as an ongoing series. With no short four or five-issue arc in mind, Jennifer Walters' place on the throne could be intended for the foreseeable future.
On the one hand, it seems a clever strategy to increase interest (and sales) forShe-Hulk. After all, why not use the awareness of the brutal, gladiatorial “Planet Hulk” to benefit a member of the Banner family? And after being left out ofthe Wakanda/Kree/Skrull cosmic war, it’s an unexpected bonus to see Jen given a war all her own.
Fans can look forward to seeing She-Hulk take the throne, and get a better sense of who or what will challenge her rule, when the events ofPlanet She-Hulk#1begin this November from Marvel Comics.
