Pokémon GOsees competitive PvP cups return to their roots this week, as the Great League, Ultra League and Master League all are available for players to face off against one another. Unlike in some of the cups, such as theSpring Cup inPokémonGO, all three of this week’s competitions only have one restriction each, based on aPokémon’sCP.
While some Pokémon have a minimum CP, taking them out of contention for certain cups, most can be used in all three cups. The maximum CP your Pokémon can have to participate is 1500 for the Great League and 2500 for the Ultra League, while for Master League, you can use any Pokémon you like. The three cups will beavailable from 9PM local time on April 22 until 9PM local time on April 29. This takes place alongside theSweet Discoveries event inPokémonGO.

The Best Teams For Each Cup
For each battle in the GO Battle League, you need to select three Pokémon and choose which one starts the battle for you. The meta across the GO Battle League cups is constantly changing, making it hard to select the best individual teams, but those below are great options that match up well against the other meta teams.
Of the cups,The Great Leagueremains the meta that changes the least, meaning one of the best teams you can still use isFeraligatr,Morpeko, andClodsire. As is the case with all the best teams, the three Pokémon complement each other, being super-effective against the other team member’s weaknesses.
Ultra League opens up the pool for Pokémon, but the meta options are still mostly non-Legendaries due to their stats at this CP. This makes a great team to useLapras,Grumpig, andDusknoir. Dusknoir and Lapras have both been long time favorites, but Grumpig has joined the meta in 2025 due to the move pool at its disposal.
In the Master League Cup, you’re able to use any Pokémon you like, but it is advisable to power them up using Stardust to raise their CP as much as possible. With all Pokémon available to be selected, Legendaries dominate.Palkia,Zygarde(Complete Forme), andHo-Ohcan come together to make a dominating team. Since its introduction toPokémonGO, Dragon- and Water-type Palkia has stood out in the Master League with Zygarde, an equally powerful attacker. Ho-Oh rounds out the team to take advantage of the first two Pokémons' weaknesses.
Best Alternate Teams To Use During Great League, Ultra League, and Master League
Further Useful Options To Pick
While the above teams are all great options to use across the three cups, it is always good to have an alternative team to hand in case you consistently run into teams that have an advantage over yours. For the Great League, the key is using Pokémon that can take a few hits. My current favorite alternative Great League team isAzumarill,Primeape, andMandibuzz. Azumarill is an all round beast for Great League as a bulky Water- and Fairy-type with the other Pokémon being great switches for it.
Ultra League introduces more powerhouses with Great League meta PokémonFeraligatrandPrimeapealso viable options at this level if you have ones with high enough CP.Corviknightcan be used to round out the team due to its dominance against other meta Ultra League options.
All wins across all three leagues will earn trainers x4 Stardust as a reward during the weekly period.
In the Master League,Mewtwo,Dragonite,andSolgaleoare a strong attacking line-up that can cover the majority of the best meta opponents. Mewtwo remains one of the all-around strongest Pokémon inPokémonGO, and most trainers will have a high CP version by now. All of the Great League, Ultra League, and Master League GO Battle League competitions are very competitive inPokémonGO, making it important you select the best teams.
