Some truly uniquePokémonmerch is going to be hitting soon, but fans will need to have a ticket to San Diego Comic Con if they want to pick a set up for themselves. This new merch reflects one of the most iconic elements of the original series: the Squirtle Squad.
The company Jazware has announced it will be producing a set of plushies modeled after the highly recognizable firefighting team from Ash’s first season,as reported by Pokejungle. The set includes five different plushies, each modeled after a different member of the Squirtle Squad and each with their own distinctive pose.

According to reports, the Squirtle Squad plushes will be sold as a set of five for $100 at San Diego Comic Con. Fans of collectibles already know what a headache trying to obtain SDCC-exclusive merch can be, so there’s little doubt that these Squirtle Squad plushes will be going for big bucks after the convention has ended.
The Squirtle Squad originally appeared in episode #12, “Here Comes the Squirtle Squad,” as a gang of ruffian Pokémon causing trouble around town. Ash helped convince them to use their abilities to help people, leading to the squad becoming firefighters, while their leader became Ash’s personal Squirtle.
The Squirtle Squad has appeared several times since then; they were last seen in the closing episodes ofPokémon Journeyshaving become celebrities, and were putting on shows dressed in Power Ranger-like outfits for children.The Squirtle Squad are instantly recognizablefrom the leader’s pointed sunglasses, and everyone else’s round ones.

Many internet-goers are likely familiar with the Squirtle Squad, even if they haven’t seen the originalPokémonanime. The Squirtle Squad are often used as a meme format, wherein each of the Squirtle is given a label, usually referring to friends of the creator.
