ThePokémon Trading Card Gameis getting a new set of cards, and it seems like a fan-favorite legendary Pokémon is being hinted at. ThePokémon TCGremains one of the most popular card games in the world and also one of the most collectible ones. This new tease seems like a pretty obvious hint at one classic legend in particular, and it’s long been one of the most popular ones since its introduction in 2004.

In a report fromPokeBeach,a new trademark for “Storm Emerald” has been filed for thePokémon TCG, and that name appears to be teasing Rayquaza fromPokémon Emerald. It’s not confirmed yet which Pokémon this set will focus on, or if this is truly referencing Rayquaza, but it seems pretty likely. In Pokémon lore, Rayquaza was the first Pokémon to Mega Evolve, so this set could focus on that evolution of the Pokémon.

Storm Emerald Is Seemingly The Late 2025 Set For Pokémon TCG

Trademarks Are Usually Discovered Around Six Months Before Release

Storm Emeraldis likely set for a November or December release, as trademarks are usually discovered around six months before the release date of the card set. Previously, the trademark for the Ninja Spinner set was discovered, and that set will likely focus on Greninja and its Mega Evolution. There has been a steady increase in the number ofPokémon that can Mega Evolve, so it wouldn’t be surprising for the sets later this year to focus on that.

However, trademarks are not always discovered in the correct release order, so we could see Storm Emerald before Ninja Spinner. TheBlack Bolt & White Flaresetsare releasing in July and will feature a new rarity-tier to the game: BWR. It remains to be seen if the sets released later this year will also include the BWR rarity.

Rayquaza Cards Make A Lot Of Sense, Especially After Mega Evolutions

There’s Another Mega Evolution Set On The Way

The first EnglishMega Evolution set for thePokémon TCGis set for release on September 26. September will also see the release of two preconstructed decks focused on Mega Gengar and Mega Diancie. With other Mega sets on the way,it seems pretty likely that this newStorm Emeraldset will also focus on Mega Evolutions, assuming it is, of course, referencing Rayquaza.

Rayquaza remains one of the most popular legendary Pokémon, so it potentially getting a Mega Evolution-focused set will likely make a lot of fans happy. The exact release date and details will be revealed later, but it could a great time to be a collector and player of thePokémon Trading Card Game.
