Assassin’s Creed Origins

One thing that PlayStation Plus can be great for is to build up excitement and hype for an upcoming game by releasing a previous entry or predecessor. WithAssassin’s Creed Valhallareleasing on November 17for PS4 and PS5 at a later date, right now would be a great time to let players go back and visit one of the older games in the series. While it doesn’t feel all too likely that Ubisoft would allow forAssassin’s Creed Odyssey to fill that void, it’s certainly been long enough since the release ofAssassin’s Creed Origins.

Not only wasAssassin’s Creed Originsa prequel to all previous games and an origin story for the Assassin brotherhood, it was also a soft-reboot of the entire franchise and the first game to feature the new gear and combat systems. Taking place in Egypt, a long-requested location from fans of the series,AC Originsmanaged to strike a great balance between the old and the new and told an enjoyable revenge story about a father hunting down those responsible for the death of his son. There’s a lot to love aboutAC Originsand it would be a great addition to thePlayStation Pluslineup.

Little Nightmares: Complete Edition

Early on in the PS4’s lifecycle, developer Tarsier Studios was mostly known as a support studio, having helped with development on games likeLittleBigPlanet 3andTearaway Unfolded. It wasn’t until the release of the studio’s first proper game in 2017,Little Nightmares, that the Swedish developer suddenly became one that players should look out for. In preparationfor the release ofLittle Nightmares 2, which is due to release on PS4 (among other platforms) sometime in 2020, now would be a great time to put this incredible puzzle-platformer on PS Plus.

Best compared to Playdead’sLimbo,Little Nightmaresis an atmospheric horror game wrapped up in a side-scrolling platformer. Players take on the role of a young girl named Six and must make their way through a series of disturbing and horrifying locations to escape the Maw.Little Nightmaresisn’t a long gamebut it’s one that won’t be soon forgottenthanks to the brilliant level design, atmosphere, and genuinely creepy enemies.

God of War (2018)

Designed as a soft-reboot of the PS3 franchise,God of Warredesigned the combat of the series, refocused the story, and moved to a new Norse mythology setting, praised for its characters, writing, art direction, and its technologically impressive single-shot camera. In the years since its release,God of Warhas been widely considered as one of the best exclusives on the platform and one of the greatest video games ever made. Considering it’s fairly cheap to buy brand new as aPlayStation Hits title, it doesn’t seem too farfetched of an idea and its a great reason to join PS Plus, even if it were just for the month. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s likely, but crazier things have happened.

God of Waris available now, exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Blood & Truth

It wasn’t too long ago that Sony was still offering free PS3 and PS Vita games each month alongside PS4 as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription, benefiting owners of all three platforms and giving consumers a great reason to pick up other hardware. That’s no longer the case, and while Sony has given away PSVR compatible titles in the past, it would be great to start seeing morePSVR exclusive games in the rotationto reward early adopters and entice those that are still on the fence.

Developed by SIE London Studio, a first-party studio behindPlayStation VR Worldsand theSingstarseries,Blood & Truthis one of the best PSVR games available and generally a brilliant VR experience. This first-person shooter is inspired by Hollywood blockbusters and old-timey British gangster films, praised for its cinematic story, strong characters, and action-movie gameplay. It would be a bold move for Sony to include such a prominent title but one that has the potential to pay off in a big way.

Earlier this week, Microsoft made a generation-defining move by addingProject xCloud to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, combining its game library, cloud-streaming service, and online play into a single monthly subscription. PlayStation Plus has lasted ten years on its current model. However, times have changed, and it looks like Sony will need to make some pretty big changes if it wants its online service to be able to compete once the PS5 and Xbox Series X reach consumers' hands. While Sony is yet to reveal any plans for changes to its PS Plus service, the launch of PS5 will hopefully come with sweeping changes that make PS Plus and PS Now a far more attractive and simplified service like Xbox Game Pass.

PlayStation Plusmembers receive two free games every month with their subscription.
