Puzzle Bobbleis a long-running franchise going back to 1994, when it spun out of the popularBubble Bobbleplatformer series. There have since been over 15 releases in thePuzzle Bobbleseries, though major iterations have been on pause for over a decade in favor of ports. Now,Puzzle Bobbleis back, withPuzzle Bobble Everybubble!fromTaitolaunching exclusively on Nintendo Switch in 2023. The latest trailer forPuzzle Bobble Everybubble!shows off the game’s latest game mode, a co-op story option.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble!‘sfour-player co-opwill allow a group of friends to experience the game’s story together in its entirety. Each player will have control over their own little dragon, which can aim and shoot bubbles as they please. Only by working together will players be able to complete eachPuzzle Bobble Everybubble!, popping colored bubbles by matching sets of three or more.

In a first for the series, theBubble Bobbleprotagonists Bub and Bob will be joined by two entirely new characters. Their names are Peb and Pab, a pair of bow-wearing feminine dragons that are yellow and pink, respectively. The four dragons will explore the setting of Rainbow Island, helping a mysterious character named Miniroon, who looks a lot like Bub. The game’s conflict, naturally, involves a significant number of bubbles that require popping in order to save Rainbow Island.

ThePuzzle Bobble Everybubble!trailer offers a first look at what the co-op gameplay for thepuzzle gamelooks like. All four players are able to shoot their bubbles freely, with only a brief forced pause between shots. Everyone can shoot everywhere on a given map, so long as their shot trajectory allows it. That meansPuzzle Bobble Everybubble!players can help (or hinder) their teammates if they get into a sticky situation.

Relatively little is known aboutPuzzle Bobble Everybubble!, though it’s admittedly a very simple game. The big unanswered question is whetherPuzzle Bobble Everybubble!will offer online co-op or if it will be exclusively available locally. There’s no word on that in the game’s announcement. It should be noted that there’s no mention of the game requiring aNintendo Switch Onlinesubscription for multiplayer, though, which implies it’s local-only.

Bubble Bobble’s modern resurgence with the 2020 release ofBubble Bobble 4 Friendshas been well-received by fans of the classic franchise.Puzzle Bobble Everybubble!bringing back the arcade action of the puzzle spin-off series, now with four-player co-op, is certainly to be equally welcomed. Fans can expect plenty morePuzzle Bobblegameplay to be revealed as its 2023 arrival nears.
