Rami Malek’s best production post-Mr. Robotwasn’t a TV show at all; it was a film.Mr. Robotis a showthat, while critically acclaimed upon release, took some time to gain a following. The series follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a hacker who struggles with several mental disorders and finds it difficult to connect with others.

Consequently, it can be a bit hard to connect with Malek in just a few episodes, but once you do, you realize it’sone of Malek’s best performances, andMr. Robotis a one-of-a-kind drama thriller series. Malek has had an impressive career post-Mr. Robot, butonly one role feels in the mold of Elliot Alderson.

Rami Malek’s Best Mr. Robot Replacement Was 2025’s The Amateur

Both The Show And The Movie Are About Espionage And Politics

The only replacement forMr. Robotand Rami Malek comes in the form of his 2025 action thriller movie,The Amateur, where he plays Charles “Charlie” Heller, a CIA cryptographer who becomes a vigilante after his wife is killed in an arms deal gone wrong. Charlie may not be as antisocial as Elliot, but they share similarities.

Both men are highly talented, analytical operatorswho are hard to shift off course once they are set in a direction. A decoder isn’t exactly a hacker, but it’s close enough, and if you enjoyed watching Elliot pore through files and code, you’ll like seeing Charlie use all his training to uncover a criminal conspiracy.

Despite Their Similarities, The 2025 Film Still Doesn’t Compare To Mr. Robot

The Amateur Is Too Pedestrian Compared To Mr. Robot

ThoughThe Amateuris a political thriller with high stakes in the same vein asMr. Robot, the film doesn’t really compare toMr. Robot. The movie only has a 61% onRotten Tomatoes, whereasMr. Robothas a 94% onRotten Tomatoesas well as 12 Emmy nominations with three wins and seven Golden Globe nominations with two wins.

Beyond Malek’s performance,The Amateuris a fairly standard crime thriller, a far cry from the unique take on espionage and national security showcased inMr. Robot. It was never going to be easy to replicate a show likeMr. Robot, and there are moments inthe Amateurthat get close, but it’s not enough.

Rami Malek Needs A Proper Replacement For His Hit TV Show

Malek Needs To Get Back To Television

SinceMr. Robotended in 2019, Malek has primarily been involved in movies, with appearances inNo Time to Die,Amsterdam, andOppenheimer. They’re all strong performances, but none of these roles have utilized Malek’s talents as well asMr. Robotwas able to. Malek needs a proper replacement for his hit show.

That doesn’t mean Malek needs to repeat the character of Elliot Alderson or appear in another crime thriller TV series; it means he needs to star in another TV show, one that allows him to utilize his antic, slightly unnerving energy. His performance inThe Pacificis a good example, butMr. Robotneeds a replacement series soon.
