Warning: Spoilers ahead forResident Alienseason 4, episode 9, “Tunnel Vision.“Resident Alienhas had some awesome scenes since the show began in 2021, but showrunner Chris Sheridan has reserved one of the coolest sequences for the sci-fi dramedy’s penultimate episode. The recent announcement thatResident Alienseason 5 isn’t happeningmeansthere’s just one episode left after “Tunnel Vision.”
So, theResident Aliencastis set to disband after four seasons together. Thankfully,Sheridan has spent most of season 4 building towards a proper farewellforAlan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigleand the rest of the fictitious town of Patience, Colorado. To celebrate the end of an era drawing near, “Tunnel Vision” includes a scene so cool that I basically cheered.

Harry Vs. The Mantid In “Tunnel Vision” Is Easily Resident Alien’s Coolest Scene So Far
The CGI-Heavy Fight Scene Was Brilliantly Executed
After the massive fake-out that the Mantid had died earlier inResident Alienseason 4, the villainous insectoid has since returned and then actually made a seemingly permanent exit. The Mantid has been a tricky opponent for Harry and company, as its ability to hide in plain sight means full-on confrontations have been limited.
Resident Alienseason 4, episode 9, “Tunnel Vision,” fixes all that with a brilliantly choreographed final showdown between Harry, now back in his alien form, and the Mantid. While the current run has been a little light on CGI, likely due to reported budget cuts, the fight between Harry and the Mantid doesn’t skimp on special effects.

The sequence may not be of the same visual quality as a Hollywood blockbuster, but it is still very well done for a TV show that’s relatively low profile. The fight is also a stark reminder of how fearsome Harry actually is, and how unwise someone would be to get on his bad side.
The Resident Alien Season 4’s Upcoming Finale Will Struggle To Top Harry’s Fight With The Mantid
Alan Tudyk’s Sci-Fi Dramedy Needs To End Well
At one point, even though I knew “Tunnel Vision” wasn’t theResident Alienseries finale, the episode almost had me convinced it would be the show’s final effort. The CGI-heavy fight scene is the crown jewel of the installment and also easily belongs among the list ofResident Alien’s best moments overall.
Resident Aliendoesn’t do high-octane action scenes all too often, but it does them well when required. There was clearly a lot of effort that went into the fight between Harry and the Mantid, so it’s unclear how much the show has left in the tank when it comes to trying to go out on an even bigger bang.
However, the upcoming final episode may not need to concentrate on violence. The last-minute mystery set in motion by Asta (Sara Tomko) uttering “they’re here” with zero context could be teasing a different type of finale other than an adrenaline-filled set piece. That said, maybeResident Alienhas something even more special up its sleeve.
