AResident Evil 4remake player discovered an interesting easter egg that added more insight into Luis Serra’s story in the game. The beloved Spanish biologist is known to many as the man who helpedLeon S. Kennedyin rescuing Ashley Graham from the clutches of the religious cult Los Illuminados.
Released in March of this year, theResident Evil 4remake had many changes done to it to improve the graphics and gameplay mechanics. Capcom also madechanges inResident Evil 4’s storyand character design, which garnered mixed reactions from many fans. One of the characters who was fleshed out further in the remake was Luis.

Potential Spoilers FollowIn the originalResident Evil 4, he was simply introduced as a scientist working for the Los Illuminados. In the 2023 version, players can find out ' dark backstorythrough dialogs and by reading documents. A file found in Luis' laboratory, in particular, seemed to explain why he asked Leon and Ada Wong if they had smokes when he first met them. As pointed out by Redditor KeeganTenno, the file showed the scientist communicating with an unknown person with the initials A.W., saying that he’ll use the code “You got a smoke?” to find out if the person he was talking to was sent by Umbrella Corporation. If the person replied “The kind you like,” which was what Ada told him when they first met, then they were part of his team. This also meant that Luis and Ada didn’t know each other prior to the Los Illuminados mission.
In the comments, manyResident Evil 4players said they also caught on Luis' code the moment he asked Ada if she had a smoke after asking Leon in a previous chapter. There were also fans who showed their appreciation for Capcom expanded on Luis' backstory, highlighting how the developers perfectly placed Easter eggs to give a glimpse of his sad childhood life.
Resident Evilgames may be known for its action, but they also contain a compelling story that players can discover by exploring the surroundings and interacting with items. It can be a tedious process, especially for gamers who just want to finish their playthrough, but it’s still worth it to dig deeper intoResident Evil’s lore to find out the characters' intentions and Umbrella’s plans.
