Warning! Spoilers ahead forRick and Mortyseason 8, episode 6.
Rick and Mortyusually shows alien worlds from our perspective, but the latest episode shows Earth from an alien’s perspective. The A-story ofRick and Mortyseason 8, episode 6, “The CuRicksous Case of Bethajmin Button,” sees Beth and Space Beth de-aging themselves back into childhood. As a pair of reckless, sadistic kids, they go on a destructive spree.

But whilethe Beths are off on their adventure, the B-story brings everyone else to an exciting theme park in space. Rick claims to enjoy the park ironically, but he’s awfully disappointed when it’s not how he remembers it. This theme park storyline is a great parody ofWestworldandJurassic Park, but it also flips the show’s usual conceit.
Rick & Morty Season 8’s Earth World Storyline Imagines Earth From An Alien’s Perspective
In the B-plot of “The CuRicksous Case of Bethajmin Button,”Rick takes Morty, Summer, and Jerry to a theme park on another planet called Earth World. Earth World was designed by an alien who was infatuated with Earth and wanted to replicate it. But he did a really bad job of approximating the highlights of our little blue planet.

Rick and Mortyusually shows us bizarre alien planetsthrough its human characters’ eyes. It’s taken us to a planet where everything is on a cob, a planet where people who die by suicide have their insides turned into delicious spaghetti, and a planet that’s so scaled-down that you’re able to walk around the entire globe in a few minutes.
It’s always funwhenRick and Mortytakes us to strange alien worlds, butthe Earth World storyline imagines what Earth would look like to an alien. The whole thing just looks like a mall from the ‘90s. The park’s mascots comprise of what the alien considers to be Earth’s most important figures, ranging from Muhammad Ali to John Legend.
Earth World Is A Sly Commentary On Corporatization
Rick Is Disheartened To Find That Earth World Has Become A Bland Corporate Entity
Just likelast week’sRick and Mortyepisode satirized capitalist greed, the Earth World storyline similarly has a deeper satirical meaning. When Rick brings his family to Earth World, he’s eager to show them how crazy and inaccurate it is. But when they get there,he’s disheartened to find that it’s not as wild and dangerous as he remembers it.
Rick loved Earth World when it was just one man’s vision, but he finds that it’s been turned into a bland corporate entity with all the edge and personality taken out of it.
This isRick and Morty’s sly commentary on corporatization. Rick loved Earth World when it was just one man’s vision, but he finds that it’s been turned into a bland corporate entity with all the edge and personality taken out of it. This happens all the time:a good thing gets ruined by corporate overlords squeezing it for maximum profits.
