All of that might change within the next 24 months, according to a recently leaked roadmap detailing the upcoming projects from the Paris branch of Virtuos, an international studio specializing in remakes, remasters, and AAA co-development efforts. Namely, the Singapore-based company is currently said to be working on an updated version ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which is code-named Altar. The supposedly Unreal Engine 5-powered game is reportedly targeting a late 2024 or early 2025 release, depending on whether Virtuos ends up delivering a remaster or a full-fledged remake.
Virtuos’s alleged project roadmap containing this claim surfaced on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit over the weekend, with that community’s mod team reporting that they had verified the identity of its poster as an ex-Virtuos employee. The source of the leak deleted both their post and Reddit account within hours of sharing the info, but not before it was reported by Xfire.
Apart from the allegedOblivionremake, the Paris branch of Virtuos is currently said to be developing a “narrative climbing game” code-named Ominous and the next expansion forNew World, Amazon’s 2021 MMORPG. The same source claimed that the studio is presently working on an ambitious AAA title aptly code-named Massive, which will supposedly combineShadow of the Colossus-like gigantic bosses with the co-op gameplay loop of mainlineMonster Huntergames. Finally,Virtuos is currently also working onMetal Gear Solid Delta, which the leaker claimed is internally code-named Cobra.
Originally released in early 2006,Oblivionis still widely considered to be one of thebestThe Elder Scrollsgamesever created. Aside from its immense cultural influences that are still felt to this day, the fourth installment in the long-running franchise is also notable for being the firstTESgame to fully commit to the action RPG formula. This transition from the series' tabletop RPG roots is best illustrated by the fact that swinging at an opponent inOblivionguarantees a hit, whereas doing the same inThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowindmerely triggers a roll that determines whether the attack will actually land.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionis available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
