It’s long been rumored that Nintendo plans on adding more classic games to theNintendo SwitchOnline subscription service, but there hasn’t been anything concrete as of yet. While fans are still waiting for Nintendo to officially announce more games for the service, there is at lest some new evidence that SNES games could be added soon.
Twitter user and modder Kapu discovered a list of SNES titles in NES Online’s data strings that could be a good indication of what Nintendo has planned for Switch Online’s future. In total, Kapu discovered 22 Super Nintendo games that Nintendo is apparently prepping for the Nintendo Switch.
Some fans may notice that this list is very similar to what’s included in the recently discontinued SNES Classic, including theSNES Classic’s only exclusive game,Star Fox 2. While Nintendo may not end up adding any of these games to the Switch Online subscription service, it would make sense forStar Fox 2to be included so that more people can play it besides just those that purchased an SNES Classic.
BesidesStar Fox 2, the rest of Kapu’s list is comprised mostly of heavy hitters, including some of the most critically-acclaimed Super Nintendo games of all time, likeSuper Mario World,Super Metroid, andThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It’s safe to say that some people who weren’t sold on Switch Online by the NES games may very well be won over by this roster of classics.
Again, that’s assuming Nintendo has plans to add any of these games to the Switch at all. It’s true that Nintendo will eventually run out of NES games to add, and so it makes sense that it will expand its horizons to SNES titles at some point, andmaybe even Nintendo 64 and GameCube gamesin the future as well.
