Schitt’s Creekstar and co-creator Dan Levy directly addresses rumors that the sitcom is being revived, with the Rosebud Motel sign returning. The popular Canadian comedy experienced a trajectory that is unusual for most shows, gaining immense popularity just as it was winding down in part due to its streaming availability.
Half a decade after the sitcom ended in April 2020, there are still hopes thatSchitt’s Creekrevivalcould happen. Those hopes were reignited recently when the Rosebud Motel sign returned to the exterior of the building used during production of the series. The sign had been removed after the finale, and its reemergence has fueled rumors that a revival could be on the way.

During a recent appearance onWatch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Levy was asked about the rumors ofSchitt’s Creek’s return. Levy, who created and starred in the series with his father Eugene Levy, admitted that he was surprised to see the Rosebud motel sign back up and indicated thatthere is nothing currently in the works forSchitt’s Creek’s revival:
It’s interesting you say that, because I too just found out that the Rosebud Motel sign was put back up. I would love to say yes, but I have no idea what it’s doing there. It was just as much a surprise to me as it was to you. So, I don’t know. My hope is that maybe… sometime, somewhere.

Still, in the quote below, the four-time Emmy winner revealed that he did does about bringing backSchitt’s Creekfrequently, confessing that heworries about reviving the series in a way that wouldn’t be satisfying to fans. Read that part of his answer below:
I think about it all the time. I have a kernel of an idea. I love the show so much. I don’t want to disappoint the show, and I don’t want to disappoint the fans. I know it’s easy to just take a check and put something out there, but I care about it too much. I’m just waiting for that idea to be the right one. And then maybe… yeah.
What This Means For Schitt’s Creek
It Has To Be Done Right
The younger Levy has generally maintained that theSchitt’s Creekseason 6 endingwas the right time to end the story. In order to pick it up again, it would have to be for the right reasons and not just attempting it because of the show’s popularity. That is an especially important note to strike in the case of the Canadian hit, which took TV audiences and critics by storm in its final run.
After previously falling under the radar as a hidden gem, the sitcom swept the Emmys on its way out the door. It is a rare case in television where most popular shows tend to be established and championed early on.Schitt’s Creek,on the other end of it, got a fairy tale ending that the Roses themselves would probably want to have. It’s an almost perfect legacy in its own right.
Our Take On Schitt’s Creek’s Return
It Wouldn’t Hurt To Leave It Behind
Levy is careful not to completely shut the door on a reunion oftheSchitt’s Creekcast. But the original resonated, in part, because it was a fresh take that brimmed with possibility and was executed expertly. There’s a certain sweetness to leaving the Roses as they were, with the option to revisit and rewatch them whenever.
