TheSea of Thievesclosed beta is now live for anyone who pre-ordered the game or participated in the closed alpha test, but unfortunately some players are reporting difficulty signing on to play. On top of this, theSea of Thieveswebsite is also down due to the large influx of visitors.

Sea of Thievesplayers are receiving a “too early” error message when attempting to access the beta, and the developers took to Twitter to assure players that they are investigating the cause of the issue. The issue has been widespread all day, preventing many from playing the game.

The beta test for Rare’sopen world co-op gamewas announced a few weeks ago, and is set to run from now until January 29. It has not been said if the beta would be extended due to today’s issues. The beta is set to contain a glimpse of what players can expect to see in the full release of the game, with some of the bigger secrets remaining hidden untilSea of Thievesreleases this March.

The quirky co-op pirate adventure will allow players to sail the open seas in search of treasure with friends on both Xbox One and PCthanks to the game’s Cross-Play functionality. The feature was tested during the game’s closed alpha, and the developers are working to make sure that the game is balanced for both PC and Xbox One players.

Many have been looking forward to beta testing out this highly anticipated co-op game, and could be frustrated that they can’t just dive right into the adventure. The developers have been working on a fix for the issue all day, so hopefully everyone will be able to sail the open seas soon enough, perhaps even a bit longer than planned if the beta gets extended.

Sea of Thieveslaunches for PC and Xbox One on July 09, 2025.
