Last year, Tripwire Interactive and Deep Silver released theopen world shark RPGManeater, and then followed up that initial release with next-gen versions of the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Now the game, in which players take control of an ever-evolving shark, will be making its way to a new platform, allowing fans to play it on the go when it launches on May 25.
Tripwire Interactive and Deep Silver have officially announced a Nintendo Switch version ofManeater. This version of the shark RPG should be basically the same as the one available on other consoles, though fans shouldn’t expect quite the same performance as the game enjoys on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The trade-off will be the ability to playManeateron the go when taking the Switch out in handheld mode.

Otherwise,Maneatergameplaywill be the same experience that fans remember. For the uninitiated,Maneateris all about eating fish, humans, and other objects throughout various areas to upgrade the player character shark. The ultimate goal in the game is to get revenge on the villainous Scaly Pete, who kills the player shark’s mother in the prologue.
Those interested in picking up the Switch version ofManeatershould note that they will not have to pay a full $60 for the game.Maneateron Switch will retail for $39.99. And as expected, the game has been rated M for Mature by the ESRB, which is not surprising at all when one considers the subject matter.
WhileManeateris a mostly tongue-in-cheek game and definitely has a sense of humor, it also has some dark and disturbing elements. For example, theshark inManeatercan bite the limbs off humans and leave them floating in the oceanto bleed to death.Maneatertrailers have often emphasized the game’s violence and gore, and while there are serious story beats, it generally sticks to a relatively lighthearted tone. This is largely achieved thanks to the narration by Chris Parnell, known for his work on30 Rock,Saturday Night Live, andRick and Morty.
It will be interesting to see if there is moreManeatercontent on the way besides just ports to other platforms. There was aShark Week update, but otherwiseManeaterhasn’t seen any significant expansions or things of that nature. It’s true thatManeaterreviews were mixed, but the game seems to have enough fans that it would warrant some kind of post-launch content. Then again, maybe fans should be keeping their fingers crossed for a properManeatersequel instead. For now, though, they can look forward to the Switch release in a couple of months.
