The team working on a fan-madeStar Wars: Dark Forcesremake has provided an update via an alpha teaser trailer. The footage shows fans what they can expect with Shadow Art Games’sStar Warsproject, if and when it releases to the public.

Star Wars: Dark Forcesoriginally released back in 1995, available on PC and the PlayStation. Visually, the game looks closer toDoomorWolfensteinthan the first-person shooter titles that fans are used to today. That is all the more reason that this fan-made remake looks so stunning, as it is recreated entirely inUnreal Engine 4, which is free for all developers, making it a go-to engine for small teams and fan-made projects.

There have been so manyStar Warsgames throughout the years, some great and some less memorable. It’s easy to forget aboutStar Wars: Dark Forces, but the game was enjoyed by many, selling almost 1 million copies. The game also saw a few sequels that eventually formed into theJedi Knightgames, more hack and slash than FPS. While the originalStar Wars: Dark Forcesmay not be the first name mentioned in a list ofbestStar Warsgames, many fans will be excited to see it come back.

One of the nice things about this project is that it is simply still alive. Many times, fan made games like this receive cease and desist letters, like aGoldeneye 007project that was recently shut down. The team working on that remake had to shift gears and instead work on a totally new spy-themed first-person shooter. Within just a few months of being shut down, an entirely new007game was announced to be in development from the team behind theHitmangames. In the case ofStar Wars: Dark Forces, the project may be allowed to live on if a similar game isn’t being worked on as an officially licensed next-gen type title.
