What This Means For Revenge Of The Sith
The Star Wars Movie Is A Re-Release Outlier
The huge success of the re-release of the finale of theStar Warsprequel trilogycannot be understated. In fact, in just three days, at the domestic box office alone,it has become the highest-grossing re-release for the franchise since Disney acquired Lucasfilmin 2012. While it cannot compete with the Special Edition re-releases of the original trilogy that took place in 1997, which capped out atA New Hope’s $138.2 million run, it is nevertheless a tremendous achievement for a franchise that has not had a new theatrical installment since 2019.
The most recent feature-lengthStar Warsmovie in theaters wasEpisode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.

The re-release’s success spells good news for theupcomingStar Warsmoviesthat are currently in the works. In addition toThe Mandalorian & Grogu, which follows the continued adventures of the lead characters from the Disney+ seriesThe Mandalorianand is set to debut on July 27, 2025,this includes a number of titles that are in various stages of development. Set to hit theaters in the coming years are installments directed by James Mangold and Taika Waititi, 2027’sStar Wars: Starfighter(which stars Ryan Gosling), and aNew Jedi Ordermovie featuring the return of Rey (Daisy Ridley).
Our Take On The Revenge Of The Sith Re-Release
It Could Spend More Time In Theaters Than Expected
While the re-release ofStar Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sithwas only intended to run for a week, that may soon change. The fact that it has become such a substantial box office success in spite of being available to stream on Disney+ and to rent on various VOD platforms at a price of $3.99 or less speaks to general audiences' hunger for the franchise on the big screen. If the re-release is continued for even one more week,it could potentially continue to climb up the 2025 chartand set major records.
