The DCU has changed dramatically due toan influx of kryptonite, but thankfully, Clark has power to counter it. Unfortunately, it could still lead to the Man of Tomorrow’s death if he’s not careful navigating this new normal.
InSuperman Unlimited #2by Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque, Superman attempts to stop a robbery, only to discover the burglars are armed with new kryptonite weaponry.Superman finds himself briefly overwhelmedbefore his new golden power activates and allows him to take them all out in a matter of minutes.

A flashback reveals thatwhen Superman’s body is overwhelmed with kryptonite, it releases all the solar energy stored within his cells to heal and protect him for up to around 200 seconds. However, any longer will de-power Superman and leave him fully vulnerable to kryptonite once again.
Superman’s New Power Makes Him Immune to Kryptonite at a Cost
After Three Minutes, Superman Becomes a Sitting Duck
Superman has seen a lot of strange things happen to Earth, but one of the most bizarre things to occur in recent history was an asteroid containing amassive amount of kryptonite. Superman did his best to mitigate the damage to Earth, but he wasn’t able to stop the asteroid from falling. Now kryptonite is more ubiquitous than ever, with people able to get their hands on it far easier than before. Thankfully, Clark’s brush with the asteroid helped him tap into a new power. Whenever he’s exposed to too much kryptonite, Superman transforms into an awe-inspiring golden form.
A new power like this isn’t just cool, it’s an absolute necessity if he wants to survive a world full of easily-accessible kryptonite. But as cool as it is to look at, the problem is that Clark’s power has a very short time limit. Granted, three minutes is a lot for the Man of Tomorrow, but it’s not an eternity. Sure, it’s enough to take out a couple of thugs with kryptonite knifes and bullets. But what about when Superman runs into a kryponite-based villain like Metallo? This new power, while a godsend, also puts Superman in a dangerous position.

Is the Risk of Superman’s New Power Worth It?
Three Minutes of Immunity Sounds Nice, But Not Very Practical
Of course, Superman can get a lot done in three minutes, but so can a lot of his villains. All it’s going to take is for one evil foe to learn of this time limit, then coordinate a plan to wait out the time limit on Superman’s invulnerability. From there, all it takes is a kryptonite bullet to the brain to permanently end the Man of Steel. Fortunately,Supermanhas dealt with greater threats and, as long as he does his best to be smart when using his new power, he can avoid its gravest drawback.
