James Gunn has given fans a few more behind-the-scenes looks atSuperman, specifically highlighting the Justice Gang, Metamorpho, and Daily Planet reporter Cat Grant. Thus far, the film’s marketing has shown each of these characters to varying degrees, though most of the focus has been on its leads: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult. The rest ofSuperman’sexpansive castincludes Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Mikaela Hoover, Wendell Pierce, and Skyler Gisondo.
One of several posts by Gunn recently, the first of his snapshotsshowcased himself, Fillion, Merced, Gathegi, and Carrigan all in costume. He captioned the post: “At the first costume test with our nascent super ‘heroes,’ Green Lantern Guy Gardner [Fillion], Hawkgirl [Merced], Mr. Terrific [Gathegi], and Metamorpho [Carrigan].“Notably, Fillion does not haveGuy’s trademark bowl-cutwig on.

The nextpostfocused on a less prominent character: Cat. While Hoover’s version of the journalist can be spotted throughout the film’s advertising, she has only been showcased in a solo character poster previously. The image shows Hoover dressed as Cat in a director’s chair, with the accompanying text reading: “Cat Grant hanging out with me on set of the Jarhanpur desert on the day of her costume fitting.”
The most recentphotoshowed a previously seen closeup of Metamorpho used in the first teaser trailer but from the director’s perspective–through a monitor. Alongside the image, he wrote: “Metamorpho live from the monitor. July 03, 2025.”

What James Gunn’s New Superman Set Images Mean
WhileSuperman’scast sounds huge on paper, Gunn has discussed how and why these characters are being introduced. He sought for the new DC Universe to feel lived in, so he established a world where metahumans already exist, and Clark Kent has been a Daily Planet employee for a while.Having supporting players makesSuperman’sworld feel more fleshed out. Moreover, most of these characters have the potential to continue on in the DCU.
Gunn promoting these actors makes sense with the potential longevity of the DCU in mind, though he has been very clear aboutClark still beingSuperman’sfocal point. According to the director, “every character has their arc, like [he] would have in any story, but it really is about Superman.”
Our Take On James Gunn’s New Superman Set Images
Supermanis the theatrical launch of the DCU—as such it makes sense to build out its world by introducing more DC characters into the film. However, this creates the potential pitfall of having too many players on the board. Regardless, the more images emerging fromSuperman, the more hyped DC fans are getting, setting the stage for a potential blockbuster.
